George Ennin, a 53-year-old Ghanaian security guard living in the Bronx, New York, was fatally stabbed to death.
Reports suggest the tragic incident occurred on Monday, January 5, 2026, in front of 3077 Third Ave. in the Mott Haven section around 2 p.m.
George Ennin, in a viral CCTV footage shared on X, was captured walking to work his first day back after a month-long vacation in Ghana when the suspect approached, kicked him, and stabbed him multiple times.
Surveillance video captured the incident; George Ennin walked about 29 steps seeking help before collapsing.
George Ennin is said to have died at Lincoln Hospital.
Suspect Sean Jones, 38, a repeat offender with 20 prior arrests, mostly robberies and assaults has since been arrested and charged with mùrder, mànslàughter, and crìmìnal possession of a weapon.
George Ennin, according to reports, is the father of two teenage daughters living.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, “Why should someone with 20 prior arrests of assault and murder be living among humans in broad day light”.
“Hmm, when your village people say they won’t rest until you die, they can even let a madman leave his chains to come and destroy you. There are cameras everywhere, and on a normal day like ambulance 🚑 would have located him in time to save him, but this is how the devil planned it, hmm. May God protect us”, a netizen added.
One X user added, “Why are there psychopaths walking free everywhere these days, looking for people to hurt, and yet the government’s system is doing nothing to protect normal people”.
“Tragic and heartbreaking. It really makes you question the “American dream” narrative, risking your life in a country where repeat offenders roam free and violence feels random. One has to ask: is migrating into this kind of system really worth it anymore?”, a netizen added.
One more netizen wrote, “I sometimes wonder why there are no reported robberies, murders, manslaughter, or other major crimes in these Arabian countries. Say what you will about their methods, but they work. This criminal wouldn’t have gotten the chance to commit such a horrible crime again, because he’d be six feet under”.
Additionaly one more X user stated, “This is absolutely heartbreaking. A hardworking father and immigrant, just back from visiting family in Ghana, randomly att@cked and murderéd on his way to workon his first shift back.
Rest in peace, George Ennin. My deepest condolences to his daughters and loved ones.
And how on earth is a guy with 20 prior arrests (mostly violent robberies and assaults) still walking the streets to do this?”
