Angry youth in Ahafo Nkaseim have expressed their frustration against the John Mahama-led NDC government over its constant interference in their galamsey activities.
According to the Angry youths, the Mahama government does not want to allow them to engage in galamsey activities, so they are coming to do galamsey at the parliament.
Speaking in a viral video, the enraged youth at Ahafo Nkaseim stated, “They said they won’t let us do galamsey; we are going to do galamsey in Parliament. We are going to steal from those who led us to vote for them”.
The enraged youth outburst follows an anti-Galamsey task force raid that destroyed their illegal mining settlement.
Netizens reacting to the viral video stated, “What they said in anger was also a confession: they’ve learned from their leaders. They watched politicians mine public funds, strip communities bare, and call it governance. So when they vow to do galamsey in Parliament, it’s not rebellion, it’s imitation. The youth aren’t the disease. They’re the symptom”.
Another netizen added, “Hot rhetoric, poor strategy. Threatening to ‘do galamsey in Parliament’ is just theatre; stealing is criminal whether in the bush or the chamber. Channel that fury into demanding jobs, holding kingpins and politicians accountable, and stop romanticising lawlessness”.
“These individuals have experienced extreme poverty, and galamsey has significantly improved their standard of living; they won’t give it up easily”, one more netizen added.
One more X user added, “I keep saying that from the previous government to the current one. None is using the right approach to end galamsey. These are people who have tasted huge sums of money before. If you really want to stop galamsey, first educate, and start providing jobs for these communities”.
“@GhPoliceService @NAIMOSGhana, can you please catch those in the video too? This is the way to bring sanity. They’ll stop without knowing they have stopped. Soon, all this nonsense and illiterate mindsets will reset back to being human. Ethiopia and co are developing and flourishing, but this particular people are dragging Ghana back, and they are those who vote for people like Nana Akufo-Addo and his corrupt NPP team. They don’t know what accountability and growth are; all they care about is their stomach and selves, hence it gives room for people like Ken Ofori Atta and family to raid, loot or heist from us”, one more netizen added.
Meanwhile, ten heavily armed men impersonating the anti-galamsey taskforce at the Nyankamam-Armori Forest have been arrested by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
The heavily armed men were arrested by NAIMOS at the Nyankamam-Armori Forest in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
The suspects were said to be operating with impunity, extorting money from illegal miners.
NAIMOS, in a dawn operation, led to the arrest of the group. The suspects were found with weapons and talismans.
They have since been handed to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.
