Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has clarified that the heated exchanges witnessed in Parliament.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the heated exchanges should not be mistaken for anger but rather are a way the MPs express their disagreements as part of democratic process.
Speaking in a video shared by GraphicOnline on X on Thursday, January 1, 2026, he explained, “Don’t think that we are fighting. It is only our way of expressing disagreement. We are not at war in Parliament; we are only expressing our disagreements”.
“That’s why when there’s chaos, you see calmness the next day in Parliament. So, if you go and fight, you are fighting your own trouble, so don’t fight,” he emphasised.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Afenyo-Markin’s comment stated, “That is not how to express disagreement. Stop the gaslighting and take responsibility for the indiscipline you and your colleagues are leading in parliament. Lead by example”.
“I like how Hon. Edem Agbana is closer to Hon. Afenyo. Afenyo is one fine guy you can associate yourself with if you want to drive infrastructure and employment in your constituency”, a netizen added.
A netizen quizzed, “Expressing disagreement by leading your dishonest colleagues to destroy state properties? Is vandalism a disagreement? Ghanaians are asking you”.
One last X user added, “The main concern of well-meaning Ghanaians is the reckless behaviour of the minority members, to the extent of destroying state properties and frequently disrespecting parliamentary leadership”.
Meanwhile, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has said every chaos in parliament is on the head of the Speaker Bagbin.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye accused Speaker Bagbin of being biased, partisan, unjust and not transparent.
According to Miracles Aboagye, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, is the worst Speaker Ghana has had since 1992.
He further urges the NDC to ‘end their delusions’ and focus on delivering the governance Ghanaians voted for.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Dennis Miracles Aboagye claimed, “Bagbin remains the worst Speaker of Parliament since 1992. He is biased, partisan, unjust and not transparent, and all he does is skirmish. Every chaos is parliament is on the head of the speaker. He is the one who must maintain order in the chamber, but because of his inconsistency…”
He cited the Speaker’s conduct during the 8th parliament and the 9th parliament, arguing that the Speaker turned the 8th parliament into a nursery because of his skirmishes.
Miracles Aboagye added, “What happened in the 8th parliament is what we are seeing in the 9th parliament. We saw parliament turned into a nursery, and it all happened under this same speaker because of his skirmishes. He’s unable to make firm decisions. How can the Speaker of the House move a motion in the midst of chaos?
That is not leadership; that is you supporting impunity. You did it in the 8th Parliament when the NPP has majority, and you are doing it in the 9th Parliament, and it is time to call the Speaker out, let him know that he is responsible for the House. So if the House is in chaos, it is on his head and nobody else”.
