Unemployed Nurse goes down on his knees

An unemployed nursing training college graduate has gone on his knees to plead with the John Mahama government over the non-appointment of some batches of graduates.

The Unemployed nurse expressed deep pain about their situation, noting that they are suffering and hungry.

According to the Unemployed Nurse, some of them completed their training in 2020, others in 2021; however, they have yet to be posted.

Speaking after the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association planned demonstration was called off, the Unemployed Nurse lamented, “We are going down on our knees, and begging them, we have gone for education and training, we are pleading with them, we have been home for far too long. Some are from 2020, others are from 2021. We are suffering if we go somewhere unless our parents help us.

I came from Koforidua. Coming here, my mother gave me something small to get here. I am a man, even call credit unless I ask my mom for money, anything I will do unless I go to my mum”.

He added, “Our female colleagues, people in authority, are telling them that unless they have an affair with them before they will give them jobs. We have been home for a long we are hungry.

We have been to Hon Akandoh’s place so many times, we have been to parliament, we have gone to all the necessary places, but nothing has come out of it. We are pleading with you, President John Mahama, give us work to do”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the sad development stated, “We need a permanent solution. What is the point of receiving training allowance and not be employed after graduation?

We must cancel the allowances paid to teaching and nursing trainees and use that money to provide infrastructure and support the consolidated fund to permanently employ them when they graduate.

Some people have received their allowance this year and were jubilating. After graduation, they will come and add to the backlog”.

“If his degree is BSC Nursing, I can help him get work/study in Canada or the USA. You can link him to me.

Or it’s a diploma, I can help him continue his education abroad with a scholarship.

No need to beg in order to serve your country”, a netizen added.

One more X user added, “Gov’ts consistently struggle to pay their training allowances, yet they allow themselves to be used as political puppets. Had they agreed in 2014 to cancel their allowances and redirect the funds to building health facilities yearly, they wouldn’t be in this situation today”.

“Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College life is not easy. We’ve been through the stress, but we’re now depending on our parents & the small hustle we do.

I was in the same class with him, completed in 2021. I’ve been able to do my top-up, but I am home now carrying mortar”, an X user added.

Additionally, a Ghanaian added, “This is troubling. Should the nursing schools be closed down? Or turned them into schools that train people for high-demand job markets? Cos it seems these nursing trainings are becoming somewhat needless. But this isn’t the case. We have rural areas that need nurses and hospitals”.

One more Ghanaian stated, “In a country where we have entrusted resources to persons to build for us and the next generation, one person will pocket the money for himself and family members, then take them outside to chill, while the people suffer. Ebiaa ne Ken ofori atta, now he dey live in the best moment”.

“This is simple. Cancel nursing allowance and use it to build more hospitals and clinics. More nurses would be employed after school, and also the number of people who go into nursing too will reduce”, a netizen added.
