Former Minister of Trade, Hon. K. T. Hammond, has thrown jabs at Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Bryan Acheampong following their constant bragging of funding the NPP.
K. T Hammond cautioned NPP presidential aspirants against using their financial contributions to the party as a campaign strategy.
The former lawmaker questioned where these individuals were when the party faced financial challenges in the past, noting that many only began offering support after benefiting from the party’s rise to power.
Speaking during Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s visit to the Adansi Asokwa constituency, K.T. Hammond stated, “If we are going to turn the party into rich versus the poor, we, the poor people, the Abronye party, of which I am a member, we are joining Dr Bawumia.
When we needed money to form the NPP, where were the rich people? When we were looking for money in the 1990s before forming the party, it got to a point for the 2000 election, and we had no money”.
He added, “The stress that we went through to get the NPP to become a winning machine, those making noise about money were nowhere to be found, we struggled for the party, and we are not even making noise.
When you meet those claiming to be rich, ask them, before the NPP won the first election, the men who brought the money, where are they? Today, people use different ways to get money and brag about it. I am part of the Poor People’s Party, Abronye party, and Dr Bawumia is also part of it”.
K. T Hammond, however, commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for quietly and consistently supporting the party financially without seeking praise or political advantage.
Additionally, Samuel Atta Akyea, the leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has slammed Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Bryan Acheampong.
According to Atta Akyea, being wealthy does not automatically qualify as a leader.
Atta Akyea noted that it takes more than money to govern a nation.
Speaking to Asaase Radio, Samuel Atta Akyea stated, “Do you know the number of people who have contributed significantly to the party but have always remained silent? Do you know the number of people the party resourced to become successful and later came back to support the party without making noise?”
He continued, “Must your wealth give you automatic qualification as a leader? If you have money but you cannot think properly, how can you lead? So richness is not the sole factor and variable for leadership, and people must understand this”.
“You have a lot of money, and it makes you an automatic leader? Where is this logic coming from? It takes more than money to govern a nation. Patience is part of it, and calmness is also part of it”, he added.
Atta Akyea further appealed to Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Bryn Acheampong to remain silent on their wealth and riches.
“The moment you talk about money and power, you’re not competent to lead because money is not all that you need to lead”, he added.
K.T. Hammond and Atta Akyea’s comment comes on the back of recent narratives about Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Bryan Acheampong and their wealth, as well as their contributions to the party as financiers.
Kennedy Agyapong has on numerous occasions mentioned how much he contributed to the NPP as far back as 1992.
Meanwhile, Dr Bryan Acheampong has also revealed he funded the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, more than the former president Akufo-Addo.
According to Bryan Acheampong, Dr Bawumia did not contribute a penny during the 2023 presidential primaries in the Eastern Region.
He revealed that he paid every penny for Bawumia to become the NPP’s flagbearer.
Speaking to some members of the NPP, Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “Dr Bawumia’s primaries in 2023, he did not contribute a penny to the Eastern Region. I paid every single penny for him to become the flagbearer of this party. He didn’t pay a penny, and it is a fact.
In the 2024 elections, I funded Dr. Bawumia more than I even funded Akufo-Addo. I am happy that two-thirds of the people here are from the Eastern Region”, he boldly added.
Dr Bryan Acheampong, in a separate video, revealed he personally financed the NPP’s campaign in the Eastern Region during the 2024 election season.
According to Bryan Acheampong, he funded the party’s campaign activities by giving each NPP polling station executive in November, numbering about 26,000, GHS 2 million each.
Dr Bryan Acheampong further revealed that he also financed 33 parliamentary candidates in the Eastern region with GH¢100,000 every month from May to October.
