The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of parliament yesterday, 27 February 2026, during the Speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin, introducing some names of dignitaries at the SONA 2026, chanted where former president Akufo-Addo was.
The NDC MPs, after the Speaker mentioned the name of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, started chanting “Where Akufo-Addo” following his absence from the State of the Nation Address.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was at the SONA, was spotted with a huge smile on his face as the NDC majority MPs chanted where former president Akufo-Addo was.
Addressing the Parliament house ahead of President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, Speaker Bagbin detailed that he had received a formal communication from former President Akufo-Addo, who expressed his gratitude for the invitation but could not attend the SONA due to a good reason.
Speaker Bagbin stated, “Honourable members, I have a formal communication from His Excellency, the former president, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, who expresses his gratitude for the invitation for him to be here. Unfortunately, for good reason, he is not able to attend this occasion. However, he extends his best wishes to you and His Excellency John Mahama”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the video wrote, “Akufo Addo no get time for Ghanaians even when in power and now that he’s not, you think he will come. This man be mafia papa lol”.
A netizen added, “We’re not serious in this country. How many SONAs did Manama attend after ’16? He wouldn’t even attend Independence Day ceremonies. Where were the chants then?”
“Why would he come? He has gotten what he wants. One man who is in conflict with almost everyone. He thinks he is always right. Very wicked and vindictive”, a netizen added.
One more Ghanaian added, “Kufuor then late Rawlings de3 proper statesmen, every occasion dem go represent, unlike John Mahama and Akufo Addo, when Mahama lost the election he hardly attended any state occasions and Akufo Addo too dey do same now”.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has boldly declared that Ghana is once again back and is working again.
According to President Mahama, Ghana’s economy is stabilising and returning to growth.
Mahama stressed that the path for Ghana’s recovery had been challenging, but the economic measures taken by his government are yielding results.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, 27 February, President Mahama stated, “I was clear from the outset that recovery would not come easily, but I was also clear that I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians”.
“I promised then that just as I have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I would reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he stated.
“Mr Speaker, I told this August House when I appeared before you last year that we would have to take tough, prudent and necessary decisions to restore stability and credibility. Today, I can say with confidence: Ghana is back. Ghana is working again. And Ghana is open for business.”
“The fundamentals are improving, and the path to sustained acceleration is very clear to everyone,” he said, adding that the government deliberately prioritised discipline and reform over waste and speculation.
President Mahama added, “From the outset, we resolved to choose discipline over waste, reform over excuses, and stability over speculation. As a responsible government, our first order of business was to halt the economic haemorrhage and restore order to our public finances.
“These measures have begun to deliver some of the most remarkable economic outcomes in decades,” he told the House.
“We approach this celebration not only with pride in our past but also with renewed hope for our future. We are building prosperity through sound policy, responsible governance, and inclusive growth,” he said
“Our Resetting Ghana agenda is working. Our nation is on the runway; it is in takeoff mode. And you are all advised to fasten your seat belts,” Mahama added.
Additionally, President John Dramani Mahama detailed that his administration has significantly reduced government borrowing.
He highlighted that his government’s strategy is rooted in prudent economic management to stabilise the economy and rebuild confidence.
“We have borrowed less and spent more responsibly,” President Mahama stated.
