Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has fired back at Dr Bryan Acheampong over his performance in Zongo communities during the 2024 elections.
The former vice president dismissed allegations that he performed poorly in Zongo communities, labelling the claims as baseless propaganda.
According to Dr Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong must prove his claims by showing him data to support the assertion that he won in only one Zongo community polling station in the entire country.
Speaking during a gathering in the Adansi Asokwa constituency on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Dr Bawumia stated, “The propaganda out there is that Muslims and the Zongo people did not cast their votes for Dr. Bawumia. When I heard it, I asked, ‘Where is the data to support these claims?’ Because for me, if you tell me something, I need data to prove whether it’s true,”
“Recently, one presidential aspirant claimed that in the Zongos, Dr. Bawumia won only one polling station in the entire country”, he added.
Dr Bawumia also cried out to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates about party members being arrested by the John Mahama-led NDC government.
According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP needs to unite and regain power in the 2028 elections.
Bawumia added, “We all have seen the things going on. After losing power, the NDC are using power to intimidate us, harass us, and abuse us. In a short period, Chairman Wontumi was arrested, and they have arrested Chairman Abronye; they are arresting our TikTokers, bloggers and appointees. What all this means is that the NPP needs to be united so that in 2028, we will regain power.
Some weeks ago, Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), launched yet another scathing attack on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong recounted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised the NPP Zongo community votes, but the NPP in the 2024 election list included every Zongo except one.
He further detailed that Dr Bawumia, as the NPP presidential candidate, did not win a single constituency in the seven regions of this country.
He criticised Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections and urged delegates to consider choosing a new candidate if the party hopes to secure victory in the next election.
Speaking in the viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “Look at the results: in seven regions of this country, our presidential candidate did not win a single constituency, not one. I am talking about the presidential.
In the Western Region, he won one; the whole of Western Region, he won one with less than 500 votes. In the Central region, he won two constituencies.
Almighty Greater Accra, he won only two constituencies, and in all of the North, we lost. His promise of winning the Zongo vote for us, we lost every Zongo community except Effutu Zongo. Think about it”.
He further reminded Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that in every election, we start from zero and not the percentage secured in the past election.
Dr Bryan Acheampong added, “Every Zongo in this country we lost except Effutu Zongo, if we talk about it and educate the delegates, what do we do here, aka Nine p3”.
The NDC had 56 per cent. Do you think that they are not a political party? Every election, we start from zero. President Akufo-Addo got 49 per cent, he didn’t say aka 1 per cent.
In the next election, we started from ground zero, and we moved our seat to 169, and he won. The next election, we don’t start from 41 per cent; we need to bring a candidate that can feed into the NPP winning formula and win the election for us”, he detailed.
