Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, has accepted the apology of the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.

The Interior Minister, accepting the apology, described the allegations as deeply distressing, particularly given their gravity.

According to Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, he is no one to say he is going to play and not to accept the apology.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated, “It is painful to be wrongly accused or your actions to be misconstrued and be labelled differently from the intention that you have, especially when it’s collated with criminality and heavy wrongdoing.

But Mr Speaker, I’ve had a great privilege of serving in leadership in this House, probably with greater respect and with all humility to my colleagues, with those of us sitting in the chamber now. I have served in leadership longer than anybody, and I will be the last to thwart the effort of leadership in trying to help run this House.

“Except to say that colleagues remember most of the time I keep saying, ‘please, let’s respect each other’. I will be the first to always say that ‘fight for the right thing to be done, make sure that wrong things are not done’. But let’s not do it as though we intend to destroy each other. I am heavily hurt and heavily worried.”

He added, “If a colleague errs, using the same spot or the same microphone in the same chamber now comes back to say he has withdrawn and is apologising, who am I to say that I’m going to play God and I will not accept it? I accept it wholeheartedly.”

His remarks follow an earlier apology from Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, who has retracted and apologised to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, over allegations of fraud he made on the ongoing security service recruitment process.

The minority leader’s apology follows the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who referred the issue to the Privileges Committee over contempt charges.

During parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday, March 4, Afenyo-Markin formally withdrew the comments and expressed regret over the matter.

According to him, he did not do that to hurt or to tarnish the reputation of Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, I will not do that to hurt him or tarnish his reputation, and if the text of my concern reflected so, it is hereby accordingly withdrawn. I assure you that concerns that will arise out of any matter shall be properly brought to his attention”.

Barely 24 hours ago, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin demanded a public hearing over his Trybe Net allegation after he was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he is ready to appear before the Privileges Committee to present evidence of his allegations.

The minority leader demanded that the Privileges Committee of Parliament hearing on the matter be made in the full glare of the public.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Honourable Minister of Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter. I repeat, because you and I know what we know. Let the referral be made, let there be a public hearing. Let Afenyo-Markin, who these days is seen as perhaps, according to the allegation, saying something untruthful, and because of that, it is a breach of parliamentary privilege. Mr Speaker, you have the wisdom to exercise discretion.

“I will avail myself, should you exercise that discretion, to a public hearing, and then the matter can be brought to a peaceful rest”, he added.

The minority was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament following his allegations of corruption in recruitment into the security services, implicating a senior government official.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, during parliament sitting, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, demanded Speaker of Parliament refer Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges Committee to substantiate his allegations.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated, “Mr Speaker, if you recollect, you were in the chair on Thursday when he started this allegation. I took the opportunity on the floor to correct him and show him, and even encourage him, that if he wanted information, he could write and I would furnish him with all the details.

“He decided to take advantage of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, when the whole world was listening to us, to say categorically that the current internal security recruitment is scandalous. There’s corruption looming. People will go to prison. He said it on this floor,” he stated.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak added, “And I’m saying that, Mr Speaker, based on our Standing Order 31 (E and F), that is contentious. And I’m saying that let’s give him the opportunity to go to Privileges, where you have all the ample time and opportunity to provide all his allegations so that we meet him there with our facts.

“So, Mr Speaker, that is why I am referring to the fact that we are having too many of such comments coming from somebody like the Minority Leader, and the time for him to prove his allegation is here, and the best place to do that, Mr Speaker, is at Privileges,” he said.

So the one behind Trybe Net, the one who introduced Trybe Net to the Ministry, who is chopping money. We are happy you are showing pictures. Very soon we will bring her picture. The one in charge of Trybe Net duping innocent Ghanaians, duping the unemployed youths, there are many youths who are looking for jobs, and this Trybe Net with connivance with an appointee of the government she will be exposed, so you continue with Ken Ofori-Atta.
