“Why are you running away? Is this inheritance you want to leave your family?” -Ofori-Atta quizzed

News“Why are you running away? Is this inheritance you want to leave your family?” -Ofori-Atta quizzed

Kojogah Adawudu, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has quizzed former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, over his refusal to account for his stewardship.

Adawudu noted that Ofori-Atta’s actions will have long-term consequences on his family for generations.

The NDC communicator quizzed the former finance minister on why he is running away from Ghana, and further quizzed him on whether this is the inheritance he wants to leave for his children and family.

Adawudu also made a comparison referencing Ofori-Atta’s great uncle, J B Danquah, whom the subject of a negative historical narrative tag concerning the detention of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, January 12, 2026, Adawudu asked, “Why are you running away? For somebody who once occupied the finance position and understands stewardship, why can’t you come and account to the good people of Ghana?”

“Is this what you want to leave for your children? That your father refused to account, that your father was uncovered, that your father stole the people’s money? Is that the inheritance you want to leave for your family?” he queried.

He added, “There is already a blot on the family narrative. With all the stories around J B Danquah and what happened between him and Nkrumah, including his unfortunate death in detention, is that the same story you want to repeat and pass down through generations?”

“If you are invited by the police and you go willingly, they won’t put handcuffs on you. I was surprised when the Office of the Special Prosecutor once described him as a fugitive, but his own conduct today tells you that he is running,” he said.

Also, Okatakyei Afrifa-Mensah, a Ghanaian media personality now based in the United States, has told former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta he is denting the image of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Okatakyei Afrifa-Mensah, Ken Ofori-Atta is making the NPP distasteful and unattractive over his refusal to come back to Ghana to face his corruption-related offences.

He stressed that Ofori-Atta is making it seem that all NPP members are thieves.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, Okatakyei Afrifa-Mensah stated, “You have made the party look like there are no leaders, so everyone can do whatever he or she wants. When Ken Ofori-Atta was the Minister of Finance, we cautioned him about his poor performance and even called for his resignation. Ken, the way you are going, you are disgracing the NPP, but he made it clear that there was no way he would resign”.

“The fact that you have refused to come and answer questions goes a long way to denting the image of the NPP. It makes it look like all members of the party are thieves. We warned you while you were doing it. What sort of disgusting behaviour is that? Just come and face your charges, you don’t want to come,” he stated.

The Ghanaian media personality added, “Right now, the NPP is not what it used to be. It looks distasteful. If he believes he has done nothing wrong, he should come and answer questions so that confidence in the party can be rebuilt.

“Even when you were sick, and your face was swollen, did you resign? The party you don’t care about. The middle class of the party do not wish to join the NPP because of the things Paul Yandoh and Chairman Wontumi”.

Wontumi, a whole regional Chairman, became a symbolof comedy”, he added.
