“You don’t go fishing in the Sahara Desert; our candidate will be the next MP for Kpandai” – Tanko-Computer

News“You don’t go fishing in the Sahara Desert; our candidate will be the next MP for Kpandai” - Tanko-Computer

Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has said the NDC candidate, Mr Nsala Wakpal, will be the next MP for Kpandai.

Tanko Computer stressed that the NPP are trying to use a backdoor to maintain itself in parliament, but they are going to win.

He detailed that the trial Judge in her ruling noted that in one constituency, the NPP secured 1300 votes, which is not possible as the maximum number of votes one can secure now at a polling station is 750.

Speaking to the media after the Supreme Court adjourned its ruling to January 28, Rashid Tanko-Computer stated, “We were urging our supporters to continue with the campaign. What I have seen today tells me that the rerun will come, and we are going to win the rerun.

“Do you go to the Sahara Desert? You don’t send nets to the Sahara Desert for fishing; that is what they are doing. You saw what they were doing in court; we all sat through it.

“Our candidate is here, he is going to be the next MP for Kpandai, we are going to win the matter. 28th, we will be back here. We are urging them to continue; in fact, he just arrived this morning, and people are ready to vote for the NDC.

They are trying to use the backdoor to maintain themselves in parliament. Have you forgotten that the trial judge, in ruling the matter, observed that at one polling station, they scored 1300 votes? Have you ever seen a polling station in Ghana currently? The highest you can get is 750”, he added.

His remarks follow the Supreme Court who has adjourned its ruling on whether to quash the High Court Judgment annulling the parliamentary result for Kpandai in the Northern Region to January 28, 2026.

The postponement follows further consideration of issues raised in the case, with the court expected to deliver its definitive ruling on the new date.

Lawyers for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, argued that the Tamale High Court acted without jurisdiction.

They argued that the Kpandai parliamentary election was gazetted on December 24, 2024.

However, Lawyers for Mr Nsala Wakpal have strongly opposed the application.

They maintained that the High Court acted within its constitutional mandate.

Also, the Electoral Commission has acknowledged the existence of multiple Gazette notifications and detailed that the different Gazette numbers reflected different batches of constituencies.

The case was adjourned to January 28, 2026, with the order suspending the re-run still in force.

It will be recalled that the Supreme Court last year, 2025, ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to halt all proceedings and activities leading to the conduct of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun.

The court directed the EC to suspend all proceedings pending the final determination of a case before the court.
