A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, identified as Javits Frimpong, has been shot dead in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
According to reports, Javits Frimpong was shot near the intersection of Crotona Place and East 171st Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. while reportedly on his way to school.
The information gathered suggests the teenager was shot in the abdomen and was found in and out of consciousness.
Police are searching for three male suspects, but no arrests have been made. The motive remains unclear.
Reports suggest the suspects, who were last seen wearing black clothing, were fleeing down Fulton Avenue with two of them were wearing surgical masks.
Meanwhile, Surveillance video shows a person fleeing the scene who matched a description released by police.
The video showed someone wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a mask.
According to authorities, the victim ran about a block after being shot before collapsing. He later died at a hospital.
Thomas Frimpong, the father of the victim, speaking to journalists, disclosed that his son moved to the United States about a year ago from Ghana and complained of being bullied by some students.
He further revealed that two students were suspended for repeatedly bullying his son.
“It’s not easy for me. it’s not easy for me. He’s my everything. I’m here with him alone. I’m here with him alone,” he said, adding he rushed to the hospital. “They said my son passes, past. It’s not easy, ma’am. It’s not easy.”
“Two boys, um, were fighting with my son and the two boys got suspended,” Thomas Frimpong said.
“He said, ‘Dad, any time I am going to lunch, that guy keeps on bullying me.’ He said, ‘I have been reporting him several times,'” Thomas Frimpong said.
“My son is very quiet. My son didn’t talk. He don’t talk,” Thomas Frimpong said.
“It’s devastating. I got a son that’s 9. It’s sad,” neighbor Cecile Johnson said.
“It worried me. I’ve got kids,” Modesto Arriola said. “Over over here, there’s no control over here.”
“He was just going to school, like doing what he was supposed to do,” a longtime resident named Carla said, adding the victim had so much to live for and to offer to the community.
“I don’t think they are going to go free for killing an innocent child,” he said.
