3 suspected kidnappers arrested at Sang

The Ghana Police Service Northern Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of one Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The Police disclosed the suspects have been identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32 and Abdulai Salam, 28.

The police detailed that they were arrested on September 29, 2026, at different locations in Sang in the Mion District.

In a statement on October 1, 2026, the police stated, “The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu alias Haruna at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested on 29th September 2026 at different locations in Sang in the Mion District.

Preliminary investigations established that the victim was abducted on 25th September 2026 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence. The suspects later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.

The victim managed to escape from his captors and was taken to a clinic in Sambu for medical attention. The Police proceeded to the facility, where they found and engaged the victim.  He informed Police that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men, but he later managed to escape and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu.

The victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from their photographs. Further investigations indicate that the suspects are connected to other robbery incidents in the area.

The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident”.

In related news, the Police has announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Circle phone dealer Nana Yaw Kyere.

The Police disclosed that the suspects have been identified as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai, and were arrested following investigations by the Missing Persons Unit.

The Police further disclosed that the victim left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on 19th September 2026 in his Honda Civic vehicle and did not return.

According to Police investigations, the victim was lured to suspect Philip Tefe’s residence at Teshie Agbleza by suspect Sarah Osei Adams.

The police revealed that Nana Yaw Kyere was hit with a metallic object by Philip Tefe after a confrontation broke out, sustaining injuries in the attack but was still alive.

They further disclosed that he was subsequently left unattended in another room where the suspects had taken him after the attack and later died from his injuries.
