A netizen identified as Boatemaa Gifty has launched a scathing attack on the Health Minister, Mintah Akandoh, following the suspension of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) CEO.

According to her, four hospitals are sitting idle, yet your solution is to suspend the KATH CEO.

She highlighted that the Akufo-Addo government delivered Oforikrom Agenda 111, Trede Agenda 111, Sewua, and Afari Military Hospitals to help ease the burden on KATH; instead of the Mahama government, to operationalise it, they are looking for a scapegoat.

In Boatemaa Gifty’s post stated, “Four completed hospitals sitting idle, yet the solution is to suspend the KATH CEO? 🤔The @NAkufoAddo/@MBawumia administration delivered Oforikrom Agenda 111, Trede Agenda 111, Sewua, and Afari Military Hospitals to help ease the burden on KATH.

Instead of making them fully operational, this government has left them underutilised and is looking for a scapegoat.

How does suspending the CEO create more beds, space, or infrastructure at KATH? The problem is bigger than one person”.

Meanwhile, Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have announced the commencement of their indefinite withdrawal of services following the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.

According to KATH doctors, the decision to suspend the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer is unjustified and counterproductive.

In a formal notice addressed to the Chairman of the KATH Board, the doctors expressed concern that measures introduced by management to address patient overcrowding and ensure continued delivery of safe healthcare.

They argued that KATH, which serves as the principal tertiary referral facility for the middle and northern sectors of Ghana, is facing significant infrastructural challenges.

According to the statement, following deliberations, members unanimously condemned the suspension of the CEO, stating that the decision would not address the underlying challenges confronting KATH.

The association resolved to commence a total withdrawal of services by medical doctors at the hospital effective 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

They further disclosed that the strike action would continue until a number of demands are met, which include the review and reversal of the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer.

Additionally, the association demanded KATH Board establish clear policies to guide the management of situations at the hospital’s emergency capacity and also called on the Ministry of Health to provide clear timelines for the operationalisation of Sewua Hospital and Afari Military Hospital.

Their statement follow, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, has directed the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to suspend the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, for two weeks with immediate effect.

In a letter dated June 5, 2026, the Health Minister asserted that the decision follows the KATH CEO temporary suspension of emergency admissions at the facility.

The Health Minister highlighted that the action was taken in contravention of directives issued by President John Dramani Mahama.

He disclosed that the meeting involving the Ministry’s Chief Director, Technical Advisor and Legal Advisor concluded that the CEO’s actions were inconsistent with the President’s directives.

Parts of the letter read, “Pursuant to Section 36 (1) of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 526), I am respectfully directing the Board to suspend the Chief Executive Officer for a period of two (2) weeks with immediate effect, for causing to be announced the suspension of admissions of emergency cases to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2026”.

“I am also respectfully requesting you to undertake a thorough investigation to establish on what authority he made those comments on Channel One Newsroom and whether it was a management decision for him to grant the said interview. Where necessary, the appropriate sanctions should be applied,” the Minister directed.

The KATH Board has been given two weeks to complete its investigations and submit a report on its findings and recommendations.

The development follows the KATH CEO, who was earlier summoned following his decision to suspend accident and emergency admissions at the health facility.
