Seven people have been confirmed dead, with eighteen others injured in a tragic head-on collision on the Komenda Asamasa along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.
Reports revealed the tragic head-on collision occurred on Monday, January 12, 2026, at around 7:25 pm.
The head-on collision involved a Sprinter bus with registration number GS 6705-21, which was travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi and a Man Diesel truck with registration number GS 8394 Y heading from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.
An eyewitness’s report stated that the truck lost control while overtaking another vehicle and crashed head-on with a Sprinter bus in the other direction.
On Tuesday, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GNFS, in a statement, announced the tragic incident.
The GNFS revealed that the Komenda Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded and removed six victims trapped inside the Sprinter bus, but all six were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Also, another female casualty who was taken to the hospital earlier was also pronounced dead, bringing the total deaths to seven.
The deceased, according to the GNFS include three females, one pregnant and one infant and three males.
The 18 other injured people were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS team and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
In related news, one person has died, with at least 37 others sustaining injuries, following a fatal accident in Suhum Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
Reports suggest that the incident occurred on Sunday, 11 January.
The accident occurred between a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck with registration number GW 3969-U.
According to eyewitnesses, the 40-seater Zhong Tong bus was travelling at high speed when it collided with the truck.
Reports suggest that 21 male and 17 female passengers in the bus were injured, with occupants of the truck escaping unhurt.
ADO II Bernard Boamah, leading the GNFS rescue crew, arrived at the scene at 7:07 a.m.
The deceased and injured were extracted from the wreckage and taken to the Suhum Government Hospital.
“The front of the bus was extensively damaged, indicating the severity of the impact, while the rear of the truck sustained minor damage. Our team worked swiftly to ensure the safety of road users and provide timely assistance to the victims,” ADO II Boamah stated.
