The Ghana Police Service has announced that they have interdicted seven of its officers over an alleged extortion incident in Accra.

According to the Police, the officers were members of a patrol team and have been accused of demanding money from a victim and forcing him to withdraw the funds from an ATM for them.

The interdiction has been ordered to facilitate investigations by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).

The Police Service assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcome.

In a press release dated Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the Police Service stated, “The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven Police personnel in connection with an alleged extortion incident in Accra”.  

“The personnel, who were members of a patrol team, are alleged to have demanded money from their victim and compelled him to withdraw the same from an ATM for them,” the statement said.

“The interdiction is to make way for ongoing investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB),” the statement said.

In similar news, the Ghana Police Service has announced they have identified and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng over the death of 23-year-old Central University Law student Ivan Baidoo on the Tema Motorway.

General Corporal Robert Koranteng’s interdiction follows preliminary investigations launched after a video relating to the incident went viral on social media on August 27, 2026.

The CID Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau has been tasked with examining the officer’s conduct.

In a statement on Saturday, September 12, the Ghana Police Service stated, “POLICE INTERDICT OFFICER OVER DEATH OF 23-YEAR-OLD IVAN BAIDOO.

The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo, following initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on the Tema Motorway on 27th August 2026.

The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has been tasked with investigating the conduct of the officer, who is currently in custody.

The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations”.
