Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has draw religious parallel from the biblical story of King Cyrus with his own circumstances.
According to Dr Bawumia, if God can choose the non-Jewish King Cyrus, He can choose a Muslim like him to lead Ghana.
Speaking to NPP delegates, Dr Bawumia stated, “King Cyrus of Persia, he was not a jew, but God chose him to lead the Israelite to Israel. If God can choose King Cyrus, who was not a jew, God can choose Dr Bawumia, who is a Muslim, to lead Ghana”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Bawumia’s comments stated, “Bawumia is a tribal bigot; he does it effortlessly when it suits him. He went to the north and said Mahama only has one term and is not going to be accountable, he has two terms, so they should vote for him not because he can deliver but because he’s one of them”.
“Ghana isn’t a religious state. Ghana isn’t a Christian state, so what is the point?”, another netizen added.
One X user added, “Voter apathy stemmed from economic hardships, perceived arrogance, unpopular policies (E-Levy, DDEP), and low base turnout, not religious bias, as confirmed by internal reviews like the Oquaye Committee and Bawumia’s own admissions. Faith-based defences come risky”.
Another Ghanaian added, “I wish the Constitution States ” Election must only be held when a government isn’t performing. ” If the economy is getting better, why waste resources to vote and the country reverses again. It seems it’s only an election some think of and others development”.
One more X user added, “God will not choose Bawumia because of we his children. We talk to our father and he hears us. We forbid Bawumia to lead Ghana. Thousand cattles sacrifice won’t change anything. Already you have spent a lot on the first you want to take it back. Sorry!!”
Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has boldly declared that the party under his leadership will come back to power after the 2028 election.
Dr Bawumia made this bold declaration during an interview on Spear FM in Damongo, during his campaign tour of the Savannah Region.
The NPP flagbearer aspirant stated, “I believe that this party, the NPP, under my leadership, will come back to power after the 2028 election. We are going to work hard for them and work hard for the people of Ghana. I want them to have their trust in me, and I will deliver victory in 2028, by the grace of God”.
He further called NPP Damongo delegates not to vote for him because he is from the north.
According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP Damongo delegates should vote for him based on his track record, competence, integrity and vision.
He urged the North and NPP delegates to vote based on his leadership qualities.
