Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the Member of Parliament for Karaga, has warned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it could end up in opposition for 12 years.
Amin Adam stressed that the NPP could be in opposition for 12 years if they are not careful and engage in experimentation.
The former finance minister cited historical trends within the NPP when the party allowed Kufuor and Akufo-Addo to run again despite their previous defeat.
According to Amin Adam, the NDC can afford to experiment because they will have the resources and the backing of President Mahama.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Wednesday, January 7, Dr Amin Adam stated, “We repeated Kufuor and Akufo-Addo for a second time, and they won, so why shouldn’t we repeat Bawumia for the second time? If we put Bawumia forth the first time and he lost, do we want to experiment with another candidate and risk losing against the opposition?”
“Mahama is not going to contest again, but he will support their candidate because they have the resources. If we are not careful and engage in experimentation, even when the NDC experiments by bringing a new candidate, and they win, we could be in opposition for 12 years.
“If we make that mistake, we will likely remain in opposition for 12 years, and by the end of 12 years, we will not have a party,” he said.
Also, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has also debunked claims by Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, over his appointment as Finance Minister during President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Dr Stephen Amoah had claimed former President Akufo-Addo initially preferred him for the Finance Minister position, but his appointment was blocked due to pressure for him to appoint a northerner as Finance Minister.
He added, “Our focus is on preparing Dr Bawumia to become president and govern the country for the benefit of the people. Claims that I was favoured in my appointment are not worth discussing; they are simply pettiness and should not distract us from getting our candidate elected”.
“If my appointment was based on favouritism, then people should know where I am coming from. I have been in this party for a very long time, and those who know me know that I did not support Nana Akufo-Addo; I supported Kufuor and Alan Cash,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam had earlier replied to critics accusing Northerners of blindly following Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking during campaign activities of Dr Bawumia in Yagaba-Kubori , Dr Amin Adam said, “Northerners have been told that we are blindly following Dr Bawumia. I want them to know that we are not blind—we can see clearly”.
“When we look at Dr Bawumia, we see a competent man, a humble man, and a truthful man. We see a President,” he stated.
