Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson of the Ken Agyapong campaign team, has accused the one hundred and eighteen (118) New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary candidates who came out to endorse Dr Bawumia of trying to whitewash him.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, January 8, Kwasi Kwarteng accused the 118 NPP parliamentary candidates of trying to whitewash Bawumia’s election record.
He detailed that the parliamentary candidates are very much aware that Bawumia out of the 276 constituencies performed poorly.
Kwasi Kwarteng detailed, “They are trying to whitewash him and shift blame, as though his candidature did not cost the party its defeat”.
“They are aware that out of the 276 constituencies, Bawumia performed poorly, to the extent that 199 constituencies, he lost. They are also aware that out of seven regions in Ghana, Dr Bawumia did not win a single constituency,” Mr Kwarteng stated.
He added, “If you are minded, in the last election, close to 350,000 of our party supporters came to vote for our PCs and voted against Dr Bawumia. 99% of our PC’s outperformed him. So this attempt to whitewash him by this political astroturfing and cosmetic showmanship will not wash”
The spokesperson of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team further highlighted that on 31st January, over 209,000 polling station executives will endorse the candidate of the people.
“At the end of the day, which is the 31st, which is the D Day, they will be exposed. And the good people of our party, the over 209,000 polling station executives, will speak stronger, will speak mightier, and they will endorse the candidate of the people,” he said.
His comments follow, about one hundred and eighteen (118) New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary candidates have endorsed the former vice president and presidential candidate hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NPP 2024 Parliamentary candidates held a press conference to declare their unwavering support for Dr Bawumia as the best candidate to lead the party in the 2028 elections.
They also called on delegates to vote for him in the party’s upcoming primaries on January 31.
According to the 118 Parliamentary candidates, Dr Bawumia is the most prepared and winnable candidate to lead the NPP in the 2028 election.
Andrew Egyapa Mercer, a former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, speaking on behalf of the group, stated, “We have followed the campaigns of all these fine gentlemen of our party, some of whom have chalked up immense successes in business, governance and the policy space.
“However, when all the key parameters required for leading our great party into the 2028 election are taken together, we are convinced that none of them match up to the pedigree, experience, competence, vision, bold ideas, humility and compassion that Dr Bawumia embodies today,” he said.
Egyapa Mercer described Dr Bawumia as the party’s most prepared, formidable and winnable candidate.
He added, “Whether we have sought our constituencies’ opinion in the yet-to-be-organised parliamentary primaries or not is immaterial. Our personal ambitions have no bearing whatsoever on our collective resolve to support Dr Bawumia”.
