The Ghanaian man abroad arrested by ICE

A Ghanaian national in Columbus, Ohio, has been arrested by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE, in a statement, revealed the Ghanaian man abroad was seeking immigration benefits despite his alleged past criminal offence.

According to ICE, the Ghanaian man attempted to hide a credit card fraud history and was arrested.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in a post on Facebook wrote, “A Ghanaian alien convicted of credit card fraud came to our Columbus, Ohio, office looking for immigration benefits.

He tried to hide his criminal past, but officers unveiled the truth. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrived to take him into custody”.

In related immigration news, former MASLOC CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, faced a US Court on January 21 over possible extradition to Ghana.

According to Victor Smith, Sedina Tamakloe’s court appearance is a critical step in the extradition process.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, January 16, Victor Smith stated, “In this particular case in America, she was arrested by the US Marshals. For now, they are not allowing us to visit, but she has to go to court. My information is that there was an extradition request by the Ghana government back in 2024 from the Attorney General’s department.

“Once they were ready to effect the request, they went for her. She is being kept until she sees the judge on the 21st of this month, and the judge will decide. If she has good reasons why she must not be extradited, her legal representation will make that submission to the judge,” he explained.

Earlier, Victor Smith revealed Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by the US Marshals and is being detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre in the USA.

In a statement issued on January 15, 2026, and signed by the ambassador, read, “I can today confirm that Mrs Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.

“2190 East Mesquite Avenue.

“Pahrump, NEVADA.

“My information is that she was detained by US Marshals on January 6th and has since been kept at that detention center”.

“I am reliably informed that acting on an extradition request sent to the US Authorities sometime in July 2024, US Marshals arrested Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court,” part of the statement read.

Also, a US Judge, David A Gardey, presiding over the case of Ghana’s Finance Minister, has requested proof of Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition request from the US federal government following the closed-door immigration hearing on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The state attorneys opposed a bond application, known as a bail application in Ghana, for Ofori-Atta, arguing that Ghana has submitted an extradition request for him.

The Judge, however, declined to make an immediate determinationadding that no documentary evidence had been presented to support the assertion.

Judge David A Gardey directed the federal government to file any evidence of an extradition request on or before February 19, 2026.
