Mr Fatawu, Primary teacher, Falahiyat E/A Primary School Block “A”, is in hot water after allegedly flogging a pupil to pulp.
Reports suggest that the primary teacher flogged the Basic 5 pupil to pulp, leading to him receiving treatment at Damongo St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in the Savannah Region.
Abdul Wahidu Mahama, the father of the Basic 5 pupil, revealed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20.
According to reports, the teacher assigned a homework which the pupil scored 2 out of 8.
The teacher then asked the boy and his classmate to lie on dual desk tables in the classroom.
Mr Fatawu is alleged to have used a wire cane to flog the students on their backs and other parts of their bodies.
Abdul Wahidu Mahama, the boy’s father, stated, “My son tried to block the cane with his hand, but the teacher flogged him heavily and verbally insulted the children for their low performance”.
He revealed that Abdul Wahidu (the pupil) complained of severe pain in his hand and was taken to the Damongo St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital after an unsuccessful attempt to treat him at home.
The father added that his son was admitted and prescribed medication, followed by surgery, which was carried out on Tuesday, January 27, adding that the teacher has not visited the child in the hospital since the incident.
The headmistress and another school staff member are said to have visited the hospital to check on the student’s condition.
Meanwhile, the father is seeking justice, appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
He added, “This is about protecting our innocent future assets”.
In other news, a victim in the trial of Godwin Adigbli, a 45-year-old French teacher at the Labone Senior High School, who is facing charges of indecent assault, has narrated her account of the alleged sexual harassment she experienced.
The 16-year-old female student, in her witness testimony, testified in court that a French teacher, identified as Adigbli, allegedly forcibly held her, kissed her roughly, and dragged her into a room containing a mattress.
According to the victim, the French teacher had been flirtatious and had earlier made suggestive comments towards her, adding that she did not expect any harm, but upon entering, Adigbli allegedly held her by the waist and began kissing her.
In the 16-year-old female student’s witness testimony admitted into evidence by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support District Court, read, “The accused person stopped saying such words and thought it was over. I eventually got to his office, he unlocked the door, and told me to bring his bag inside. I did not expect him to do anything bad to me when I entered the office.
“He forcibly held my waist and began kissing me roughly in his office, so I hit him across his face and other parts of his body to make him let me go, but all efforts proved futile because he was stronger than me,” portions of her statement read.
She added, “He then dragged me into a room in the French lab where there was a student mattress and a fridge with a sink”.
“The accused said he wanted to suck my breast; he then forcibly put his finger into my vagina. It was a very devastating experience. The accused pushed me onto the mattress in the storeroom, unbuckled his belt, brought out his penis, and tried to put it into my mouth,” she stated in her witness testimony.
The 16-year-old female student added, “I then bit his penis hard; he was in serious pain, and that was when I got the opportunity to run out. I went to my classroom in pain and was scared to report the issue because I was writing my final year exams. I was also afraid I would meet him at the exam hall, and that would torment me.
“I later went to the dormitory to use the washroom and found blood stains in my underwear. I also felt a sharp pain in my abdomen that hurt badly. I went to the teacher’s Staff Common Room, informed a teacher called Mr Evans, and also called my uncle,” she recounted.
