Lawyer for Salomey Baffoe, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has denied allegations by the Ghana Police Service that his client received money from the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account to support the publication and circulation of online content.
According to Baffour Awuah, his client has never received any money to recruit people or to support the account’s activities.
The denial follows allegations by the Ghana Police Service that Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom the Police identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” account, remitted money to Baffoe in Ghana to support the publication and circulation of online content.
The Police claimed that Baffoe consequently distributed portions of the funds to other individuals involved in redistributing videos produced by Kodua across various social media platforms.
The Police further detailed that a forensic examination of Baffoe’s mobile phone, audio and video files, and mobile money transaction records provided evidence of the alleged financial arrangements between the two women.
However, Lawyer for Salomey Awity Baffoe, speaking on Citi FM on September 22, 2026, stated, “My client has never received money to recruit anybody or has never given money to anybody to recruit someone”.
He further questioned the information presented by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Donkor, during a press briefing on the case, saying, “The CID Director-General came out and then did a press conference and put out certain information. I want to say that that information is doubtful in nature”.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah also said his client did not know anyone identified as “Jollof”.
The lawyer stressed that he would not speculate about the identity of the person behind the account but would focus on the specific allegations against his client.
“So let me say this here, my client has never known anybody called Jollof. You don’t have to know by that name. You can know the person by their real name,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah has disclosed that his client’s bail application will be heard on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, he is confident the High Court will grant his client bail when her application is heard so that she can return home and take care of her children.
He disclosed that the application was filed on Friday and is scheduled to be heard at 9:00 a.m. at the High Court Complex.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, September 21, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah stated, “It was filed on Friday, and the date for hearing is Wednesday at 9 o’clock at the High Court Complex. We are very confident that she’ll be released to go and enjoy life and take care of her children, who have not had their mother for the last 10 days”.
“Demonstrably from the government’s own statement, there’s no outstanding investigation to be conducted. So why is she being held?” he added.
Salomey Awity Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, in connection with an ongoing police investigation.
In court, she pleaded not guilty to the charge after being remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court on Friday, September 18, for two weeks.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for the immediate release of Salomey Bafoh Awiti.
The NPP Flagbearer condemned the arrest and remand of the nurse, describing the situation as worrying that the nurse was picked up in the middle of the night by national intelligence officers and subsequently remanded for two weeks.
The NPP flagbearer said he has consistently opposed the use of insults in political discourse and urged political actors and citizens to engage one another respectfully.
He also raised concerns about what he described as the selective application of laws, arguing that similar conduct by different individuals should attract equal treatment.
Dr Bawumia disclosed that when allowed to lead Ghana, intelligence agencies will not be reduced to chasing citizens for insulting the President or anyone.
