Catherine O’Hara, an Emmy-winning actress, has died at her Los Angeles home.
According to news sources, Catherine O’Hara died on January 30, 2026.
Reports suggest the ‘Home Alone’ star died after a brief illness and was rushed to the hospital for breathing trouble.
Catherine O’Hara was born in Toronto in 1954. O’Hara shone in SCTV, Schitt’s Creek, where she won major awards as Moira Rose, Home Alone as Kate McCallister, Beetlejuice, and recent shows like The Studio.
Tributes have started flooding in from Macaulay Culkin, who called her “Mama,” Ron Howard, Ben Stiller, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while she leaves husband Bo Welch and sons Matthew and Luke.
Macaulay Culkin, in his tribute to Catherine O’Hara, wrote, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you, but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later”
Also, Eugene Levy, a Canadian actor, remembers his #SchittsCreek co-star and longtime friend, Catherine O’Hara.
“Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today,” Levy wrote. “I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years. From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke and the entire O’Hara family.”
Some other fans reacting to the news of her death wrote, “I think catherine o’hara is hitting me so hard bc she was actively working! she was supposed to film the studio! she’s nominated at the upcoming SAG Awards! like she was too young”
“I loved watching her in Schitt’s Creek. I agree with her, being a wife and mother is the most remarkable role of all!
Please join me in praying for the soul of Catherine O’Hara”, another fan wrote.
Another fan stated, “Catherine O’Hara. My goodness. Hard to explain the impact she had on comedy. For me, no one better. She was generational. Since SCTV she has been brilliant. Brilliant, brilliant. Funniest ever. Man. We lost a great. A true great. Sending love to Bo Welch and her family. So sad we lost her incredible presence among us. Will always look up to her. Man”.
“The sublime Catherine O’Hara understood the subtleties of comedy and knew when to hit a moment where a huge laugh was waiting.
And she never missed…”, one last fan stated.
