A poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that the late Mahama Naser’s widow, Hajia Amina Adams, has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary.

The Global InfoAnalytics showed Amina Adams leading Baba Jamal with a commanding lead.

The poll shows Hajia Amina Adams receiving a massive support of  58% from respondents, followed by Baba Jamal at 32%. Other aspirants, Muhammed Ramne, Dr Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Muhammed Sani, received 5%, 3%, and 2%.

The survey findings, shared by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, on February 5, 2026, indicate a huge gap between Hajia Amina Adams and the four other contenders.

Also, the poll indicates a two-horse contest, with Hajia Amina Adams and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal.

The Global InfoAnalytics follows the NDC, clearing all five aspirants who filed nominations to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.

All five candidates have been cleared following a successful vetting exercise.

The vetting was held at the party’s Greater Accra Regional Office today, January 28, 2026.

Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament; Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed have all cleared.

Speaking to the media, the NDC Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, stated, “We’ve also admonished them to go into the constituencies to do their needful by campaigning and ensuring that the right things are being done, just to ensure that what we started from the beginning will end successfully”.

The Ayawaso East by-election is scheduled to take place on March 3, 2026, in the Greater Accra Region.

However, Baba Jamal has said he is surprised by the decision of the late Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Naser’s wife, to contest for her late husband’s seat.

According to Baba Jamal, as a Muslim, he is surprised by the late MP’s wife’s decision, but as a democrat, she is free to do whatever she wants.

Meanwhile, the NPP has selected Baba Ali as their Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election.

The NPP decision was made known by Divine Agorhom, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party.

Divine Agorhom highlighted that the party decided upon Baba Ali after broad consultations and a careful assessment of individuals capable of galvanising grassroots support.

According to him, the NPP was deliberate in selecting a candidate with deep party roots, organisational skills and humility.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Divine Agorhom explained, “We wanted someone with party experience, someone known within the party, who can knock on doors, reach everyone and work with the party so that, within this short time, we can get the constituency to accept him”.

“The gentleman we settled on appears to have ticked all these boxes. For that reason, we believe we are good to go. We have decided to settle on the constituency secretary, Baba Ali,” Agorhom added.
