A video has emerged of a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School being violently assaulted by students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).
Reports suggest the incident occurred at a District Schools Athletics Games organised to promote youth talent and sportsmanship.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19.
In a viral video shared on social media, students from the two schools clashed during the confrontation, with a student of Obrachire being attacked by a group of SWESBUS students.
The Obrachire SHS Student was allegedly pelted with stones and beaten with sticks.
Reports suggest the student has been hospitalised after the assault with a teacher at Obrachire, revealing that the incident has been reported to the police.
Some Ghanaians on X reacting to the viral video stated, “I remember saying this earlier, these inter-school tournaments have lost their relevance. It has now become a breeding ground for violence. Now this young boy studying at Obrachire SHS has lost his life. Someone’s son, brother, future is gone because of a useless game”.
“chale these kids have become something else. Back in our time, even when we had thugs and whatnot in schools, these things were not happening. What’s the problem?”, one X user added.
One more netizen added, “I went to the Kumasi stadium just 2 times in my entire stay in Prempeh college, and it was nothing short of unpleasant!!!!
What money is used to fund these games? Funding should be pulled immediately if the schools and sport authorities keep acting like they don’t know these occurrences are linked to their poorly managed sport programs!!!”
This latest incident adds to a disturbing trend of violence during inter-school sporting activities.
Just recently, a student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School was stabbed during the Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival.
The Eastern Regional Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) responded by banning three senior high schools from participating in all sporting and related extracurricular activities for two years.
The GES decision follows incidents of hooliganism during the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.
The affected schools are Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NSUTECH).
Effective February 11, 2026, the three schools are barred from organising, spectating or participating in all sporting activities, including quizzes, debates, cadetting and entertainment programmes at the school, zonal and regional levels.
In addition to the ban, the three schools have been fined GHC 500.00 and will be surcharged for any costs arising from damage to property or injuries sustained by individuals.
Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ivy Asantewa Owusu, announced the sanctions in a press release following alleged incidents of gang rape and stabbing during the just-ended inter-school sports competition in Koforidua.
The press release added that the directive is in line with Section 2.17 of the GES Code of Conduct on physical and psychological violence and also the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association Code of Discipline.
Also, a female student of Osino Presbyterian Senior High School has allegedly been gang raped during an interschools sports competition held in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The victim was reportedly found in a visibly weak condition and rushed to the police before being referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for medical attention.
Two underage students have since been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a student in a bush during the inter-school sports event and are currently facing prosecution.
A third suspect, believed to be an old student, is on the run.
The two suspects have been charged by the Police with conspiracy to commit a crime and with rape.
