Omanhene Kwabena Asante, host of Adom TV’s Badwam, has claimed he paid over GHS1700 for free SHS feeding over the weekend.

According to Omanhene Kwabena Asante, he has three grandchildren at the Senior High School level were government has not been releasing funds to those schools for their feeding.

He stressed that even if the government release the funds, they are not enough, which leads to Teachers calling parents to pay money to feed their children.

He boldly stated that Free SHS is no longer free, calling on the government to stop deceiving Ghanaians.

Omanhene further boldly stated that it is better to go back to cash and pay for this so-called free SHS under the Mahama government.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Omanhene Kwabena Asante stated, “It all lies, there is a School along the Aburi roads, go and check, my three grandchildren are there, go and check what they are doing to them. Over this weekend, I paid over  GHS 1700 for feeding because the government has not been releasing, and if they release, they are not even enough.

It’s a lie; the government should stop some of those things; they have lied to us for so long. A lot of the schools, even when they receive the government feeding grants, are just something small. Why are they doing that? We are suffering as parents. We know that whatever the government is saying is a lie”.

He added, “Teachers call us to pay money when you question the teacher, your grandchild will fail. It is better to go back to cash and pay than this so-called free SHS. What the government is saying and the things happening on the ground are not true. There is so much deception in this country.

One is on the Cape Coast road,  one is on the Aburi mountains road, and another is at Takoradi. These are big schools that parents are contributing to, and still contributing. If you like to open the phone lines and listen to the parents.

Government after government, particularly this government, should come clean with us on the education sector. We are tired”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Omanhene’s claims stated, If a journalist fails to back allegations with evidence, it risks reducing journalism to mere assertion or “gutter journalism,’ harming his/her reputation and credibility.

The cornerstone of professional journalism is the “discipline of verification,” where claims are not merely reported but backed by evidence to ensure accuracy, fairness, and accountability. I don’t know why NDC communicators keep going there when it’s obvious these two are on a mission to tarnish the good work of the government”.

Another netizen added, “This man is very evil— he always talks when NDC is in power. He doesn’t deserve to talk on any platform— and it seems he thinks his mind works when NDC is in power. Very hypocritical and evil”.

One X user added, “I know my NDC is going to let him go Scott fee without allowing him to prove the allegations he is making. NDC is weak to my liking nowadays. The overwhelming majority we got in parliament is a waste”.

“He is a journalist; he should mention the schools he made those payments to in his receipts. u can’t come on air and make baseless accusations against schools, or better yet, he should report those schools to the ministry or GES. Is he telling us that he doesn’t have friends at those?”. A netizen added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has disbursed GH¢199.47 million to senior high and technical school heads to settle outstanding feeding arrears.

The release follows an emergency meeting convened by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, which brought together the GETFund Administrator, Paul Adjei, and the leadership of CHASS and the COPTi.
