Acting Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku

Frederick Opoku, the acting Rent Control Commissioner, has shockingly stated that landlords have the legal right to enter tenants’ rooms for inspection at any time.

According to the Rent Control commissioner,  Landlords have the right to inspect tenants’ rooms with ample time given.

Frederick Opoku disclosed that rent laws permit landlords to inspect their properties at any time, as long as tenants are informed in advance.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme, the Rent Commissioner is quoted to have said, “Landlords have the right to inspect tenants’ rooms at any time they want, with ample time given”.

Some netizens reacting to the revelation stated, “It’s only a criminal who will be afraid of the landlord to come inspect what is inside the house that someone hasn’t seen before”.

A netizen added, “I really respect people who build houses for rent. The ROI is crazy. How long will you even take to recoup your capital to even start making profits, assuming you invested 3 million cedis?”.

An X user added, “Nonsense. Very soon, it will be like Landlords have the right for free meals from their tenants”.

“Yes they do. It’s done in the US. However, you’ll also have to be fair to tenants; fixing things, flexible rent payments (maximum 6 months’ advance) etc etc”, a netizen added.

In related news, the acting Rent Control Commissioner has fumed at the growing dollarisation within the property sector.

The Rent Control Commissioner argued that Ghana is becoming a lawless country.

According to Frederick Opoku, landlords and property owners continue to advertise and charge rents in US dollars despite the Bank of Ghana issuing directives against pricing goods and services in foreign currencies without approval.

The Rent Control Commissioner disclosed that they are engaging the Bank of Ghana’s Financial Markets Department to help curb the increasing dollarisation within the property sector.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show, Mr Opoku stated, “The argument of investment and economic jargon, free market, and so the laws should be put aside. Ghana is a country of laws, and we cannot continue to operate in illegality. We think that when we are arguing, we should put aside the law and talk about the economic and investment interest (only ?).”

“The reason why I said the law is not working in Ghana, people are still selling in US dollars, do we spend dollars in Ghana? Therefore, that is where the lawlessness comes in. Ghana is becoming a lawless country; you sell in dollars, and nobody cares.”

Frederick Opoku questioned, “Do we spend dollars in Ghana? No. Therefore, that’s where the lawlessness comes”.

“We are bold to come to television and say one million dollars, three million dollars and go with impunity,” he lamented.
