Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a private legal practitioner, has hinted that the former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, will try to challenge her conviction.
According to Barker-Vormawor, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has the right to challenge her conviction as a Ghanaian.
He further disclosed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has become the first person in the 4th Republic to be sentenced in absentia and extradited to face that sentence.
In a post on Facebook, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “Sedina becomes the first person in the 4th Republic who was sentenced in absentia and extradited to face that sentence.
I suspect she will retain lawyers to try to challenge her conviction. She has that right as a Ghanaian. She shouldn’t have run away in the first place.
But now that she is back in Ghana, will Yaanom shift the goalpost again?
We should all be ORALISTS! Unless you are a witch”.
Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Government spokesperson, has disclosed that the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has returned to Ghana.
According to Felix Kwaky Ofosu, Sedina was extradited to Ghana on Tuesday, June 9.
He disclosed that Sedina Tamakloe Attionu was immediately taken into Police and Prisons Services custody for preparations for her to begin her 10-year sentence.
In a Facebook post, Felix Kwaky Ofosu stated, “In April, 2024, the High Court convicted and sentenced SEDINA TAMAKLOE-ATTIONU in absentia. In July 2024, the Government of Ghana submitted an extradition request to the United States for her surrender to Ghana to serve her sentence.
After over two years of court proceedings, the United States authorities notified the Government of her surrender in January this year. She arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken her into custody and are making the necessary preparations for her to begin her sentence.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General is scheduled to meet his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice for a bilateral discussion on all pending extradition requests between the two countries”.
The information gathered suggests that the flight tracking data from FlightAware confirmed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu arrived at Terminal 3 of the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, aboard United Airlines flight UA 996.
Her flight landed at about 9:01 a.m. after departing Washington Dulles International Airport in the United States at 11:44 GMT.
Reports suggest Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was taken into custody by security officials and immediately taken into custody.
Also, reports suggest Sedina Tamakloe is said to be undergoing routine questioning and medical checks, which form part of standard procedures before she is transferred to begin serving her sentence.
It will be recalled that Sedina Tamakloe Attionu was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a High Court in Accra.
The former MASLOC CEO was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour for causing financial loss of GH¢90 million to the state in April 2024.
In 2019, the case began; however, during the course of the trial, Sedina Tamakloe travelled to the United States to seek medical attention.
Sedina Tamakloe was tried in absentia after failing to return to Ghana.
A former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, Daniel Axim, was also sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour.
Sedina Tamakloe and Daniel Axim were found guilty on 78 counts of causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and causing loss to public property in violation of public procurement law.
According to the Attorney General, the government of Ghana wants Sedina Tamakloe to serve her 10-year jail term in Ghana.
The development follows a U.S. Magistrate Judge, Daniel J. Albregts of the District of Nevada, ordering that the former MASLOC CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, serve her 10-year prison sentence in Ghana.
