In court, both parties came before the court, with the judge urging the teacher, the student, and their families to resolve the matter amicably through reconciliation and an out-of-court settlement.

The Ashanti Regional GNAT Chairman, Professor Elvis Binney, speaking after the court proceedings, called on civil society organisations and members of the teacher’s community to refrain from making prejudicial comments or issuing threats against the teacher.

In related news, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Ashanti Region has threatened to boycott the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over the arrest of a teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School.

According to the GNAT, their colleague, Teacher, committed no wrong, arguing that the video, which has gone viral, has portrayed him as a bad person and a culprit.

Speaking in a video shared by Asaase Radio on Facebook,  a representative of the GNAT stated, “Our colleague teacher committed no wrongdoing. The video that has since gone viral has portrayed him as a bad person and a culprit, but that isn’t what it seems. There is an order from above directing that the teacher who has been arrested shouldn’t be given bail. The people who gave the order should come to the Nyinahin community and make their own investigations from the school authorities”.

“We, as a teacher union, will not sit aloof. We are really concerned, together with our district Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) chairman. From tomorrow, no teacher in this district will go to school. We are all going to be in red attire. If due to our boycott, the English paper in the ongoing WASSCE is cancelled, they shouldn’t hold us responsible,” he stated.

GNAT further argued that their personal investigation contradicted the public view created in the viral video.

The GNAT representative added, “If they have done this to our colleague teacher, then it can happen to any of us. If you touch one, you touch all. We are demanding the release of our colleague teacher, or else, for the upcoming WASSCE papers at the Nyinahin College, we will not allow the students to sit for them. And if they don’t sit for the paper, nobody should be blamed”.

“Our colleague is innocent. Initially, when we saw the video, we went with the narrative everyone believed, but when we came to the school to conduct our own investigations, we realised the teacher did no wrongdoing and even the female student who fought with him in the video is begging for forgiveness and asking for the teacher’s release”.

The development follows, a teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested after a viral video captured him assaulting a female student on campus.

In the trending video, the teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in Atwima Mponua District was involved in a physical altercation with a female student in the school’s dormitory.

The teacher in the viral video repeatedly punched the female student and, at one point, lifted her and threw her to the ground, leaving her helpless.

In the viral footage, some people were heard urging the teacher to consider that the student was a girl and to refrain from assaulting her.

However, the teacher, who appeared obviously enraged, answered back by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”

Reports suggest the circumstances that led to the confrontation have not yet been disclosed by school authorities.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the teacher has been arrested.

Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post, wrote, “The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ”.

Meanwhile, the GES regional education directorate has launched an investigation into the incident.
