The family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo has revealed that they do not recognise Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo as the leader of Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to the family, although Apostle Kwadwo Safo appointed Israel Safo as his successor in 2017, that mandate was later withdrawn.

In the statement, the family disclosed that several businesses within the Kristo Asafo group experienced significant setbacks during Israel Safo’s stewardship.

They disclosed that some collapsed while others were pushed to the brink of collapse when Israel Safo was in charge.

The family further added that Israel Safo made changes to some of the church’s core principles and increasingly exercised authority in ways that disregarded the directives of the founder.

“These developments prompted Apostle Kwadwo Safo to revoke the mandate granted to his son in 2024 and remove the provisions conferring that authority from the church’s governing framework,” the statement said.

The statement suggested that the late founder subsequently appointed former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, as Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family and established a fresh roadmap for succession within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

“The succession framework was amended and explicitly excluded Mr Israel Safo from consideration for the leadership position,” the family stated.

According to the family, it does not recognise any installation or assumption of leadership by Israel Safo that contradicts the directives left behind by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The family also dissociated itself from any claims by Israel Safo that he is acting on behalf of the Kwadwo Safo Family, cautioning the public against engaging in transactions or dealings with Israel Safo over his purported representation of the interests, assets, leadership or affairs of either the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo Family.

“The public is hereby advised to exercise caution in any dealings with Mr Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena that purport to represent the interests, assets, leadership, or affairs of the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo Family”, the statement warned.

“Any person who chooses to engage in such dealings does so at his or her own risk”.

Also, the Kwadwo Safo family has disclosed that former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo is in a stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment.

In a statement issued by the Kwadwo Safo family on Monday, June 22, 2026, they expressed regret over the incident.

Parts of the family statement read, “The family wishes to assure members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, relatives, friends, sympathisers, and the public that Hon. Adwoa Safo is currently in a stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment”.

According to the family, the shooting incident occurred when Adwoa Safo attempted to serve court documents on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, regarding the succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The Kwadwo Safo family claimed  Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and instructed associates to open fire on her vehicle.

According to the family, Adwoa Safo had been appointed head of the family by the late founder and was carrying out responsibilities entrusted to her.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of six private security guards arrested in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

According to the Police, they retrieved five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol and a magazine.
