In court, the nine bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 each with two sureties are not required to be justified, but must sign a bail justification.

All nine accused in court pleaded not guilty to five charges, including use of an offensive weapon, possession of an offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging of firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.

The accused include Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, the brother of the injured former MP, along with Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam.

Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom are the other suspects.

According to prosecutors, the alleged shooting resulted in injuries to Ms Adwoa Safo during the installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Speaking to Eyewitness News on Tuesday, June 23, the lawyer for Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka confirmed the charges.

He disclosed that the prosecution’s case is on unlawful possession of weapons and involvement in prohibited vigilante activity.

“The charges was the prohibition of vigilante groups and then possession of weapons unlawfully. Basically those were the two charges that I went through,” Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka stated.

Meanwhile, Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has finally broken her silence, denying allegations of firing first during a shooting incident at a property linked to her brother in Kwabenya.

The former MP refuted claims of arriving at the premises with any intent to provoke violence, insisting she visited purely as a family member.

According to Adwoa Safo, she does not own a gun, nor did she shoot a gun.

She disclosed that she went to the residence alone and without a security escort, stressing that the matter was a private family issue rather than a confrontation.

Adwoa Safo also refuted claims of driving into the gate of the property before the shooting incident, adding that her vehicle does not show any signs of collision beyond damage linked to gunfire.

In a private interaction with journalists while receiving treatment after the incident is quoted to have said, “I don’t own a gun, I didn’t shoot a gun, and I will never shoot a gun”.

Her comments follow, Nana Kofi Kantanka, the Lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Church, has claimed that the former Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, fired the first shot.

According to the Lawyer, Sarah Adwoa Safo fired the first shot during an incident that disrupted the introduction of the church’s newly appointed leader.

He disclosed that when Adwoa Safo arrived at the venue, she attempted to force her way through the gates with her vehicle.

He added that a loud bang was heard, which they later discovered to be the sound of a vehicle crashing into the southern gate.

Speaking on JoyNews on Sunday, June 21, Nana Kofi Kantanka explained, “We realised that it was Honourable Sarah Adwoa Safo who was in the car. Since she couldn’t penetrate the gate through with the car, she moved to the northern gate and repeated the same action”.

“The information I got was that she fired the first shot and then banged the gate with her car. The private security also knew that the lives of people were at risk, so they were giving warning shots,” he said.

“As to whether she was wounded, I can’t confirm that,” he added.

“No one prevented her from entering. If she had parked and indicated she wanted to enter, that would have been all,” he said.

“We [Church] will also conduct our private investigation, and anybody who has perpetrated any wrongdoing will be prosecuted,” Nana Kofi Kantanka stated.
