The Ghana School of Law, after consultations with the Chair of the Independent Examinations Committee (IEC), has decided to delay the examinations in the interest of students’ safety.

They urged students not to endanger themselves by attempting to travel through floodwaters or heavy rainfall.

In a notice issued to students on Monday morning, Management stated, “our safety is our highest priority. No student should risk their life or personal safety by attempting to travel through heavy rain or floodwaters to the Examination Centre”..

“No student will be disadvantaged. Students will not be penalised or disadvantaged in any way with respect to today’s examinations due to this Act of God,” it said.

“Examinations will not commence until it is safe to travel. The start of any examination today will be delayed until conditions are considered safe for students to make their way to the Examination Centre,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has told residents of Accra to stay home and work from home following severe overnight rainfall that has triggered widespread flooding.

The Interior Minister urged employers across the country to activate flexible work arrangements.

According to him, less essential engagements, including emergency meetings, should be shifted to virtual platforms where possible.

Speaking on JOY FM Super Morning Show, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak stated, “Based on what the meteorological department is telling us, we expect it to be heavier if the prediction of more rains from Togo gets here, so please, stay home, work from home”.

“I want to thank NADMO, the navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police and all the emergency teams for the work they have already started doing, so please be connected to each other. If a call comes to the National Fire Service and you think it is something you need to link them to NADMO, don’t say this is not for us, so I am giving you NADMO’s number; please let us work together, let us operationalise the thing as one unit,” he added.

Meanwhile, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has issued a public advisory over the heavy rains that have flooded several parts of the country this morning.

The Interior Ministry statement read, “The Ministry of the Interior advises the general public to exercise extreme caution following the heavy rains and flooding experienced in several parts of the country this morning.

As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided.

Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose significant danger to life and property.

The Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency response services have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic, and undertake rescue operations where required.

Residents in flood-prone communities are advised to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and promptly report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.

The Ministry urges the public to remain calm, cooperate with the directives of security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official channels for information and updates.

Members of the public in need of emergency assistance or wishing to report persons in distress are encouraged to contact the following emergency services:

* Ghana Police Service: 18555 or 112

* Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS): 192

* National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO): 112

The safety and well-being of the public remain Government’s highest priority. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary.

The Ministry extends its concern to all persons affected by the flooding and assures the public that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and ensure public safety”.
