MP for Gomoa Central Kwame A-Plus

Rachel Florence Appoh, a former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central in the Central Region, has criticised the current MP for the Constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as A-Plus, following his insults directed at a flood victim.

It will be recalled that A-Plus fired shots at one of his constituents after the resident appealed to him to prioritise drainage infrastructure over entertainment activities.

In a viral video, a resident of Gomoa Pomadze appealed to the MP to provide support for victims and pay greater attention to drainage infrastructure.

He stated, “We are pleading with A-Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, to come to our aid and help us address this situation. He should do something for us. We believe it’s time to put entertainment aside and focus on improving the drainage infrastructure”.

However, A-Plus, reacting to the video, called the flood victim a “stupid man” and a “fool” after the resident appealed to him.

A-Plus questioned if he should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain, adding that he could express his concerns respectfully without insulting him.

In a Facebook post on the same day, A-Plus stated, “Stupid man!! You could make your statement without being stupid! You could seek help without being a fool! It is raining, so I should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain or what?”.

“A woman in Kumasi was cursing the mayor of Kumasi for demolishing buildings in waterways. If I decide to do the same, you these same people will curse my children and me. Now that water has entered your gbemi, you are calling onya ka soomli, and instead of making sense, you are talking nonsense. Opro!”, he said.

“Many of you Ghanaians have been pampered for far too long. Me I no dey fear you. The water no enter you well. Like e for carry you enter the yenku forest!”

“I keep telling you guys, I’m not your regular MP. I’m not one of the MPs you can blackmail with votes. You can reach out to me for help, even though I’m not NADMO. But if you want to be stupid, I will insult you, your mother, your father father father! Kwasea, come and see my area in Accra!”, he added.

The former Gomoa Central MP, reacting to the development, slammed the current MP’s conduct.

According to her, A-Plus, who voluntarily decided to be their MP, must know the role comes with responsibilities, and even when a person calling for help did not talk well, he needs to comfort the victim first.

Rachel Florence Appoh stated, “As a Leader, even if the person calling for help did not talk well, you comfort the victim first; you voluntarily decided to be their MP, and this comes with responsibilities. But here we are with you insulting the parents of the flood victim; insulting everybody that you don’t care about their votes, a lot of people voted for you, and you want to be radical?”

“This is unfair to the flood victims, unfortunate to Gomoa Central Constituents. Saying that we should chew our voter ID Cards if we won’t vote for him is an insult, and that’s unfair. This is the President’s friend; he must call him to order. He cannot come and insult the people of Gomoa Central; he cannot insult our integrity. He must be called to order. This is unfair to Gomoa Central Constituents.”

“He has been doing this; Speaker and Parliament must call him to order. In Parliament, there is a Code of Conduct, there are Ethics in Parliament, and you cannot talk anyhow as a Parliamentarian. The title “Honourable” is not given to MPs by chance; it is because Members of Parliament are Honorable.”

She further advised A-Plus, “So if you think you are dishonourable and you want to live a street life or whatever life you want to live, then don’t go and represent the people in Parliament because Parliament is for Honourable Members. You can have your personal attitude, but the moment you go to Parliament, you change.”

“This one, the sitting MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, has gone too far and must be checked…If he doesn’t want to represent the people again, he can say so; it’s not about development, it’s about respect.

Leadership is about people, being kind and showing respect, being trustworthy so that people can come to you with their problems.”
