Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has denied reports that he was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In a video on TikTok, Sammi Awuku dismissed the reports showing him in Kumasi with popular Appiah Stadium.
He quizzed how he could have been arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, when he was in the Eastern Region participating in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional elections.
Sammi Awuku stated, “Claims that I was arrested on Saturday are completely false. Yesterday we had our regional elections, and today, Sunday, I am here in Kumasi”.
The development follows unverified reports on social media claiming Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Multiple Social media posts on August 16 alleged that Sammi Awuku was detained by EOCO over alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as the National Lottery Authority (NLA) boss.
However, EOCO or Sammi Awuku has not issued a confirmation or denial.
The development comes amid a netizen some weeks ago who alleged that Sammi Awuku will be the next NPP member subjected to an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) investigation.
The netizen claimed that the grounds for inquiry centre on command responsibility, specifically under the principle that as head of the institution, he “ought to have known” about potential financial losses incurred.
He further alleged that Sammi Awuku will be under investigation because he is loud against the Mahama government.
In a post shared on X, the netizen alleged, saying, “Unconfirmed reports Whispers Media Network has gathered from political sources suggest that former National Lotteries Authority (NLA) Director-General, Hon Sammi Awuku may be the next subject of an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) investigation.
The alleged grounds for inquiry centre on command responsibility, specifically under the principle that as head of the institution, he “ought to have known” about potential financial losses incurred by the state.
Sources emphasise that the underlying cause for this intended action by EOCO is that Awuku is too loud against the Mahama government.
Sources further claim that EOCO is withholding formal action until Parliament enters recess. ….Just look at this nonsense. We all
