Nana Ama Bonsu I unveiled as the new Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom

Nana Ama Bonsu I has been officially unveiled as the new Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom.

The new Asantehemaa succeeds Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who served as Asantehemaa until her passing in 2025.

Nana Ama Bonsu I’s unveiling ceremony was conducted in accordance with Asante custom and tradition.

Reports suggest the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II selected Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom.

The Asante queenmothers play a pivotal role in preserving the kingdom’s customs and traditions.

The Asantehemaa promotes social cohesion and advises the Asantehene on matters relating to governance, succession and community welfare.

“Nana Ama Bonsu I is expected to serve as a custodian of the welfare of women and children while playing a vital role in conflict resolution, cultural preservation and the promotion of the kingdom’s values.

Her installation fills one of the most important traditional leadership positions in the Asante Kingdom and is expected to further strengthen the kingdom’s governance structures while continuing the legacy associated with the office of the Asantehemaa”, reports stated.

The Asante Nation in a post on X wrote, “His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in consultation with the Oyoko Royal Family has today named Odehyie Nana Ama Bonsu as the new Asantehemaa, ushering in a new chapter in the leadership and traditions of Asanteman.

May her reign be blessed with wisdom, strength, and unity as she serves Asanteman and upholds the rich customs and heritage of the Golden Stool.

The late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III was buried on the night of Thursday, September 19, 2025, after her four-day traditional funeral rites.

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is now expected to choose a successor to the late Konadu Yiadom III.

After a new queen mother is enthroned, the Asantehene, together with the queen mother, will organise the final funeral rites of the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III in a year.
