Police arrest 24 suspects in a major drug network bust in Ashanti Region

The Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-four suspected criminals, including alleged drug peddlers, in a major drug network bust in the Ashanti Region

The Police disclosed that the arrest follows an intelligence-led operation across several communities in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Police, the operation was conducted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The operation also targeted suspected criminal hideouts in Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo and Abofour.

A police press release on the operation detailed, “As part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities in the Ashanti Region and enhance public safety, the Ghana Police Service, through the Inspector-General of Police (I.G.P.) Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has intensified its intelligence-led operations. The latest operation, conducted across Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour, resulted in the arrest of several suspected criminals.

The operation specifically targeted suspected drug peddlers, disrupted criminal activities, and led to the apprehension of other suspected criminal elements operating within the affected communities. In all, twenty-four (24) suspects, comprising twenty- one (21) males and three (3) females, were arrested.

The suspects arrested are Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found in possession of a pump-action gun bearing serial number 21GN-1918; Mark Appiah Kubi; Nkrumal Zakaria, 23; Paul Addo, 62; Louis Samba, 26; Azupeh Kelvin, 28; Stephen Opoku, 24: Fredrick Boakye, 20; Frimpong Yiadom, 33; Dennis Owusu, 21; Alfred Agyeman, 25; Owusu Davis, 24; Kwaku Agyemang Duah, 35; Akwasi Amankwah, 35; Solomon Asamoah. 27: Bushiru Alhassan, 19. Juliana Vivor. 17 Douglas Osei 28 vears. K wabena Aikins 38years, Osman Ibrahim 31 years, Amponsah Emmanuel 40years, K wabena Fosu 39years, Ama Pokuah 35years, Musah Haruna 32years.

Exhibits retrieved during the operation include: One (1) unregistered Toyota Highlander, One (1) unregistered Toyota Camry saloon vehicle, One (1) Mercedes-Benz saloon vehicle with registration number AS 8724-Z, One (1) unregistered motorcycle, One (1) pump-action gun bearing serial number 21GN-1918, Seven (7) rounds of RED- STAR AAA cartridges, One (1) fireproof high-security safe, Four hundred and eighty-nine (489) pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, Parcels and sealed packages of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, Ninety (90) tablets of 225mg Tramadol, One hundred and forty (140) tablets of 250ng Tramadol, Eleven (1 1) tablets of Royal 225mg, Thirty-eight (38) narcotics processing materials, Bottles of Femude drink suspected to be laced with narcotic substances, Forty (40) locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotic substances, One (1) Dell laptop, Two (2) LED televisior sets, Three (3) boxes of African Viagra, Fifty-two (52) lighters, Twelve (12) crushers, Four (4) quantities of ash residue believed to be associated with narcotics use, anc Various sums of money suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic substances.

All the suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while the exhibits retrieved have been retained for evidential purposes. Upon the conclusion of investigations, suspects found culpable will be put before the court.,

The Ghana Police Service remains committed to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at combating drug-related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminality to ensure the safety and security of the public.
