Netizens on social media X are calling for the release of one Godfred Ansu Damoah, an NSS personnel from Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
Reports alleged that Godfred Ansu Damoah was picked up about four days ago, on 30th July 2026, by National Security and was being transferred to Accra.
According to reports, he was arrested for sharing a video where President Mahama was heard asking the National Security Coordinator about some “150 million” cash.
In a post on X, the netizen wrote, “Godfred Ansu Damoah is still in custody… I’m wondering what he’s being charged with, for which a young NSS personnel from Obuasi is being kept behind bars for about 4days now in Accra.
How will the family be feeling now? How are the parents and siblings taking this?
His crime? He posted a video of President Mahama demanding some 150 million. In fact, in his post, he wanted clarification. How’s this a crime? Oh Ghana!
He didn’t record the video himself; he hasn’t altered the video. He just picked it from social media, and he’s being kept behind bars for just posting it. We’re setting a dangerous precedent, and we must be careful. President Mahama and his government, this is never the democracy we all want. It’s getting out of hand”.
Another NPP activist in a post added, “MISSING YOUNG MAN; 🚨🚨
This young man called Godfred Ansu Damoah, who’s a National Service Personnel at the Obuasi Municipal, was picked up yesterday from Obuasi Municipal Assembly by unidentified men. We were later informed that he was picked up by National Security and was being transferred to Accra, but we quickly dispatched lawyers to the National Security office, and they claimed to have not received him or heard of him.
We are now told this Afternoon that he was arrested for simply seeking clarification on his X(Twitter) handle on a video in which the President was heard asking the National Security Coordinator about some “150 million” cash.
His whereabouts still remain unknown to his family and lawyers. We believe this is done by the Government to divert attention from Sedina Attionu Tamakloe’s acquittal.
Free speech indeed!
Meanwhile, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has issued a Facebook post clarifying a video of President John Dramani Mahama which has gone viral.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the viral video circulating on social media has been deliberately distorted by some misguided elements.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that President Mahama was referring to the release of GH¢150 million for post-flood mitigation works during a discussion with the National Security Coordinator.
He further urged Ghanaians to disregard the mischievous lies and not to be misled by the circulating claims.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “Some misguided elements have sought to distort the President’s words in this video to achieve narrow partisan ends.
The President clearly speaks of the “release” of GHS 150 million, which was in direct reference to funds for post-flood mitigation works.
That is what he was discussing with the National Security Coordinator and nothing more.
Disregard the mischievous lies!”.
His Facebook post follows a viral video where President Mahama is captured on video telling the National Security Coordinator, Mr Razak, about some150 million.
