Two people have been confirmed dead following a multi-vehicle collision involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento at Etukrom, near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
Reports suggest the crash occurred on Monday, August 3, leaving the STC bus, the fuel tanker and the Mitsubishi pick-up completely burnt, while the Kia Sorento was extensively damaged.
The vehicles involved in the crash were: “A fuel tanker; A Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number GE 8602-17; A Kia Sorento with registration number GT 8601-14; and an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22”.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary traffic diversion on the Accra–Kumasi Highway following a multi-vehicle collision at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway.
The crash, involving a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan, has completely blocked the road in both directions.
Motorists travelling to Accra are being diverted through Kibi at Nsutam, while those heading to Kumasi are being diverted through the Apedwa route.

There is a pile-up road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway (Accra-Kumasi highway), involving a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan, resulting in a complete blockade of the road for Accra and Kumasi-bound traffic.
The Eastern South Regional Police MTTD team from Kibi are at the scene and has temporarily diverted traffic through Kibi at Nsutam for Accra-bound traffic, and at Apedwa for Kumasi-bound traffic, today 3/08/2026.
We entreat motorists and other road users to cooperate with the officers on the ground as they work to restore normal traffic flow”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the targic nes stated, “Those articulated trucks er there was a day I was slowing dwn on the rough road on the motorway I was on the outer lane too the way he honk at me erh I was like u can use de speed lane but he was rather insulting me Ghana if u cn move a car forward that’s all u know how to drive”.
One X user added, “Chale, this is too much!!! Mr. President, close the Accra-Kumasi road until you finish the 3 lanes. If you can’t afford a flight, don’t risk your life on that road. People are dying every day”.
“It’s very sad and unfortunate that we have scrapped the death penalty from our laws. How can a driver with brains attempt to overtake at this narrow bridge? Why are the tankers driven by animals or what? How? Killing and injuring people just like that- why?”, a netizen added.
A netizen added, “This same spot has claimed so many lives due to an unnecessary speed ramp in the middle of a highway. So the heavy trucks find it difficult to apply brakes when they get there, leading to numerous accidents. Complaints have been made severally but to no avail. Ooww GHANA”.
“Dualise that road!! We’re tired of the mess.
The authorities will always blame drivers, human error and justify doing nothing. But they know the real issue is the road!”, one X user added.
