Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, urged Ghanaians to pray for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
According to Duncan-Williams, the GoldBod is facing a very powerful movement who are against efforts to ensure the right thing is done in Ghana’s gold sector.
The man of God disclosed that some individuals involved in the gold trade have become concerned about the tightening of controls on illegal gold purchases in Ghana.
Duncan-Williams detailed that he received calls from individuals in countries where Ghanaian gold was previously purchased through the black market.
He disclosed that they were allegedly seeking connections to senior officials who could help them access gold through GoldBod.
Speaking during a church service on August 16, Archbishop Duncan-Williams stated, “We need to pray for GoldBod. With what I was told by this Sheikh, they can’t get the gold like before illegally”.
“So they want some channels to GoldBod so they can purchase the gold now from GoldBod,” he explained.
“It is clear to me that GoldBod is dealing with a very powerful movement; these are people who are very established, they know and understand the field. They do not want the right thing to be done”.
“And in the name of politics, we are destroying the future of our children and our grandchildren,” he warned.
Duncan-Williams further expressed concern about developments, particularly about Ghana’s water bodies and agricultural land, saying, “I am not speaking as a prophet,” he said. “As much as some may be prophetic, I am speaking as a student of prophecy and a student of history.”
“I take time to study history a lot, and some things are bothering me,” he said.
“One of them is how we are managing the future of our children and our grandchildren when it comes to our water bodies, when it comes to the land that produces crops and the food we eat.”
“We are poisoning the land,” he added.
“For whatever reason, it looks like the rules and the laws are not working because if anybody tries to make it work and enforce the law, we turn everything to politics. And if you don’t do what I want, next time I won’t vote for you. And so, because people don’t want to lose their seat in Parliament, or they don’t want their party to lose, they give in and allow lawlessness to continue,” he said.
“If you look at the way we are running our society as a country, a nation, the future is in trouble,” he said.
“We are destroying the future of our children and our grandchildren,” he said.
Meanwhile, Data Scientist and Policy Analyst, Alfred Appiah, has detailed that Ghana’s Gold smuggling problem is shrinking under Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The policy analyst, in a post, analysed that Goldbod impact on ASM gold smuggling by comparing Ghana’s reported exports to the UAE and India against those countries’ reported imports from Ghana.
He disclosed that reported exports rose from 64% of partner imports in 2023 to 71% in 2024 and 87% in 2025, narrowing the relative gap.
Alfred Appiah detailed that under the GoldBod, the ratio has improved, with Ghana’s gold exports at 87% worth $12.4 billion to the two countries in 2025. The countries reported $14.3 billion in gold imports from Ghana, but the gap still stood at 1.9 billion dollars in 2025, only slightly below the 2.1 billion in 2024.
The policy analyst’s chart data shared highlighted the progress via the domestic gold purchase program but noted persistent smuggling challenges to these main destinations.
