He stressed that leaders of the former Akufo-Addo government were unhappy with his persistent criticism of their administration, which led to his series of arrests.

Addressing some constituents in Gomoa West, Captain Smart stated, “I have always said that politics should not be an antagonistic game. You need people who can help. Which presenter in Ghana can say he or she supported the NDC more than I did? I was arrested 39 times because of the NDC”.

He further alleged that during one of the arrests, he was offered a Ghana Must Go bag filled with money.

Captain Smart detailed that the offer was intended to persuade him to stop criticising the NPP government.

According to Captain Smart, he rejected the money because of his commitment to the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama.

He further alleged, “The day I was taken to the NIB, they offered me a bag full of money. They took me to a place called EFCC and when I got there, they showed me a Ghana Must Go bag filled with cash.

“They told me that if I stopped speaking against them, the money would be mine. Sammy Awuku can bear witness to this. One thing about me is that I am fair. If my party is wrong, I will tell them. In the same way, I will also speak against the NPP when they are wrong,” he added.

In related news, a viral video of Captain Smart and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah, exchanging an awkward handshake has surfaced.

In a viral video, Captain Smart was seen exchanging pleasantries with several individuals at an event.

In the video, Captain Smart, after shaking hands with everyone, tapped their shoulders; however, when he attempted the same gesture when he shook hands with MP Richard Gyan-Mensah.

The NPP MP harshly prevented Captain Smart from tapping his shoulder after shaking hands with him.

The development stems from Captain Smart declaring that he will contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries.

Meanwhile, Captain Smart has announced his decision to end his stay with Onua TV.

Speaking on the Onua Maakye show aired on August 7, 2026, Captain Smart officially announced his resignation from the station.

“I want to withdraw. I have officially resigned. This isn’t going to be the case where I will come back again. The bosses here may not agree, but I have done my part. I want the man who mic’d me to come and take off my microphone on air,” he said.
