The Upper East Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of three Nigerian suspects, Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy.
According to the Police statement, the three have been arrested for their involvement in human trafficking and forcing young women into prostitution.
In a statement issued by the Police on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, read, “POLICE ARREST THREE SUSPECTS IN BOLGATANGA FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested suspects Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo and Faith Levy for trafficking young girls and forcing them into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb of Talensi District.
Preliminary investigation revealed that suspect Peace Agbede met the victim in Nigeria and promised to help her join the Ghana movie industry because of her beauty. The victim accepted and reluctantly followed her to Ghana. On their arrival, Peace Agbede failed to fulfil her promise but rather took her to the mining site at Gbane-Tongo and coerced the victim into prostitution.
The victim is made to pay Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 400.00) a day to her madam, suspect Peace Agbede.
The victim, who had gotten pregnant, gave birth on 26/06/2026, following which suspect Peace Agbede and her accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, visited her and tried convincing her to sell the baby for Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 20,000.00) to an interested party who was ready to pay the said amount for the child.
A search conducted in the room of suspect Peace Agbede led to the recovery of six sales recording books bearing the names Esther, Mary, Bright and Silver, and 265 unused condoms.
Police also rescued four (4) female victims aged 18 to 20 years.
Suspects are in Police custody and will be put before court”.
In other news, the Ghana Police Service has announced a major human trafficking ring raid bust leading to the arrest of 186 suspects, including 100 foreigners.
The Police detailed that the 100 foreigners were made up of 96 Nigerians and four Togolese nationals.
According to the Police, the intelligence-led operation targeting organised crime in the Ashanti Region was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team (SOT) from the National Police Headquarters in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command between June 8 and 17, 2026.
The Police in a statement issued detailed, “1. The Inspector-General of Police (I.G.P.) Special Operations Team (SOT) from the National Police Headquarters, Accra, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime following a series of sustained intelligence-led operations conducted across selected locations in the Ashanti Region between 8th and 17th June 2026.
2. The operations formed part of a strategic effort aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms and other related criminal activities.
3. Acting on credible intelligence and following extensive surveillance, target profiling and operational planning, the Special Operations Team, with support from the Ashanti Regional Police Command. conducted coordinated operations at Asafo. Kenvase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase and Old Tafc Ahenbronum.
4. The operations resulted in the arrest of one hundred and eighty-six (186) suspects comprising eighty-six (86) Ghanaian nationals, ninety-six (96) Nigerian nationals and four (4) Togolese nationals,
5. A major breakthrough was recorded on 9th June 2026 at Kenyase Aframa, where a coordinated intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Gladys Ibrahim, alias “Mama Gee, together with ninety-six (96) Nigerian nationals and four (4) Togolese nationals
5. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to a transnational criminal network involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking and other organised criminal activities.
7. As part of the operation, several persons believed to be victims of exploitation were rescued. Some of the rescued persons were identified as minors and were immediately separated from suspects and placed under protective care in accordance with established child protection protocols.
8. Foreign nationals identified as victims of exploitation are being processed in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary immigration and repatriation procedures.
9. The Command commends the professionalism and dedication of the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Police Command, whose collaborative efforts led to the successful execution of these operations.
10. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network. All suspects remain in police custody or are assisting with investigations.
11. The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to intelligence-led policing and will continue to undertake sustained operations to combat organised crime and ensure the safety and security of all persons in the country”.
