Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has boldly told Ghanaians against voting for a 72-year-old man as president again after Akufo-Addo.

According to A-Plus, the old Ghanaian politicians cannot build the country or tackle long-standing national challenges.

Speaking during a Facebook Live session on June 30, 2026, A-Plus highlighted that Dubai was built in 20 years, but some Ghanaian politicians have been in politics for more than 20 years, yet Ghana has nothing to write home about.

“When John Mahama was leaving power in 2016, he handed over power after he had built a new port in Tema, a new airport, the Bank of Ghana Hospital, and Ridge Hospital. We were convinced to remove him from power. And when we removed him, we brought in a 72-year-old man. When he was leaving power, he was 80. These Ghanaian politicians sat and watched Dubai turn into what it is, but all these people can brag about is that they know how to talk,” A-Plus said.

A-Plus highlighted that he has been hearing discussions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about potentially presenting Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as its future presidential candidate.

According to A-Plus, Asiedu Nketiah would be around 72 years old by the time he could assume office as president, adding that if Ghana’s Constitution were amended to extend the presidential term to five years, Asiedu Nketiah would leave office at about 81 years old.

The Gomoa Central MP argued that Ghana cannot continue to hand over leadership to 72-year-old politicians, especially after experiencing the consequences under the Akufo-Addo administration.

“Today, NDC people are saying Asiedu Nketia will be president of Ghana; by the time he will be president, he will also be 72, and by the time he will finish his tenure, he will be 81 years old if the that if Ghana’s Constitution were amended to extend the presidential term to five years”, he added.

He argued that if President Mahama succeeds in implementing major development projects, it would be counterproductive for him to transfer power once again to another leader in his seventies.

Kwame A-Plus further blamed Ghana’s ageing political leadership for the country’s persistent recurring flooding that continues to destroy lives and property during heavy rains.

According to the Gomoa Central MP, successive governments led by older politicians have failed to resolve structural problems despite being in power for many years.

“Enough of these old people. Ebi them dey make water dey enter your house. For so many years they no fit control the system; they lef the system like that,” A-Plus said in Pidgin.

“Bring something modern, something new. Fu*k this whole politics thing. Anyone over 60 years old should not be voted in as president. In fact, they shouldn’t even be considered as a presidential candidate. I am telling you the truth: the old people cannot build this country,” he added.

Meanwhile, A Plus in that same Facebook live has boldly told Ghanaians that MPs like John Dumelo may wear boots and walk around pretending to solve their flood problem, but they cannot do anything.

According to A Plus, there is no immediate solution to Ghana’s perennial flooding in the Greater Accra Region.

He claimed that the only thing President Mahama can do is to fly a helicopter, look at it and feel sad, as he cannot do much.

He stressed that if the rain stops, that will be all and next year, Ghanaians will meet again having the same conversation.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, A Plus stated, “The truth is simple. Yesterday it rained, and the place got flooded. The only thing we can get is for the President to fly in a helicopter, look at it and feel sad. That is all we can get”.

“Then you will get MPs like John Dumelo pretending they can do something, but he cannot do anything. There is not much he can do. The rain we are talking about is just today and tomorrow; if the rain stops, that is all. Next year, we will meet here and have the same conversation,” the lawmaker said.

He continued, “You people have a problem and politicians will never solve it,” he asserted.
