The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced that the Minority in Parliament has filed a second motion seeking the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged GH¢22 billion loss linked to gold trade transactions involving the GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the motion also seeks to summon the Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, to appear before the committee if Parliament approves the request.

The Minority leader disclosed that the motion was filed and signed by several of its MPs, including Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Tweneboah Koduah, Jerry Shaib Ahmed, Vincent Asafuah, Dr Kyei Asamoah and the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam.

Speaking on Good Evening Ghana on August 20, 2026, the Minority Leader stated, “We have filed the necessary processes. We don’t just blow hot air. My colleagues have filed the motion. We have today at 12 noon filed a motion signed by respected Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Tweneboah Koduah, Jerry Shaib Ahmed, Vincent Asafuah, Dr Kyei Asamoah, and our ranking on finance, Dr Mohamed Amin Adam”.

“We have filed and put forward our argument. All the documents are tied there too for Speaker, who has the power of admissibility to determine admissibility,” he said.

“This is not different from the earlier one that we filed, and same was voted on. First of all, they delayed the motion for a long time. Each time we’re going to take the motion, they will say they were not prepared. Eventually, after taking the motion, they whipped their numbers to vote against it.

“Since the chief executive has offered to come, I believe his party has heard him. We pray that the 189 majority will not stampede us,” he added.

He further called for the proceedings to be broadcast live due to the public interest and the size of the alleged loss.

“Gold Board must bring all its books. I mean, because they said they are ready. BOG must come. We would invite those we have to invite and have a live coverage because 22 billion is huge sum,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has said the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s allegation against the gold purchasing outfit is just driven by “bitterness”.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, Afenyo-Markin and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures have raised concerns about GoldBod without providing specific evidence.

Sammy Gyamfi further challenged the Economic Committee, Finance Committee, and Lands and Mines Committee to invite him to parliament, stating he is ready to face them in parliament if invited.

The Goldbod CEO dared Oppong Nkrumah, Afenyo-Markin and Abena Asare to invite him to parliament and see if their reputation will be intact afterwards.

Speaking during a Space conversation on X on Sunday, August 9, Sammy Gyamfi stated, “As for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, I can take some of the things he says seriously because they are not personal. Afenyo Markin is just being personal. He’s a bitter friend, so I can understand. You can see the hatred and the bitterness in his voice. He has no issues. A lot of bad things are happening at the GoldBod, but he does not say anything.

He is just looking for my attention, but he won’t get it. I am a very busy person”.

“If he wants me in Parliament, I’m saying they should invite me tomorrow. I am ready. Economic Committee, Finance Committee, Lands and Mines Committee, and they should bring GTV and media people and publishers, because if I call them for a debate they won’t come. They will say they want me on oath, so they should invite me,” he stated.

Public Account Committee, Abena Asare, chairwoman, you said we are siphoning money; call us there; you were not put there to just talk. Let us come and sit down, and then you can now cite the cases and instances of siphoning of public funds by Sammy Gyamfi and the GoldBod and let’s see what will become your reputation after that”.

He further added, “None of my bodyguards is involved in gold trading, and none of my bodyguards has stolen or taken Gold Board money”.

“The said Dominic Bonsu, I understand, is even a constituency executive of the NPP somewhere in the Manso area in the Ashanti Region,” Mr Gyamfi said.
