Ghanaians on social media platform X have reacted to Caleb Ziblim, a JoyNews Research and Data Analyst, who disclosed that Members of Parliament (MPs) currently earn about GH¢60,000 a month as basic salary, excluding allowances.
According to Caleb Ziblim, the projected amount is derived from the new salary structure that took effect in 2025, following an adjustment in the salaries of MPs, ministers and other public officials under the Mahama government.
He disclosed that MPs previously received about GH¢30,000 a month up to 2024 before the adjustment was made.
Caleb Ziblim further stressed that the GH¢60,000 figure does not include the allowances MPs receive.
In a video shared on X, Caleb Ziblim, Research and Data Analyst at JoyNews, disclosed, saying, “So, we know that for the past four years, the MPs, ministers and all of that were making about GH¢30,000 a month, but then from 2025 going, they are now making GH¢60,000 a month, so that’s about the problem”.
“About GH¢30,000 four years ago up to 2024. So, after 2024, there’s an adjustment in our salaries, and now the new salary structure will mean that the basic salary is about GH¢60,000 every month,” he stated.
“That’s without the allowances. So, that’s about double,” he added.
“So, we are assuming that the jump from 100 million to now 248 million is because the president is now using the new and approved salary structure by Parliament, so this could explain why the jump from 100 million to 248 million,” he explained.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the revelations stated, “Only a fool thinks any politician is “different “. We thought Mahama was going to do great because he had nothing to lose, forgetting that he could be worse for the same reason”.
“So it was a SHAM when the vice president eloquently proclaimed that the presidency will no more discuss salaries with workers this year.
These politicians must be made…”, a netizen added.

“Honestly, it’s not their salary that feeds them. To be an MP, you need to know how to raise or mobilise funds to facilitate development. For instance, people who know how to run or manage NGOs thrive in politics or people who are filthy rich”, one X user added.
One more netizen added, “Waoooo, reasons why every tomdick and Harry wants to be an MP in Ghana. In fact, democracy is bringing this country to its knees. Hmmmm, 60,000 cedis basic pay with no allowances earned yet. Meanwhile, the poor workers’ pay is a forgotten thing by the same politicians”.
Additionally, one last Ghanaian added, “And you have people defending and thanking the president for just 9% salary increment. Nymae betua ɔmo ka paaaa”.

With allowances they will be making 100,000ghs every month. No wonder they will kill to be in parliament, meanwhile the civil servants takes 2500ghs monthly salary. Ghana 🇬🇭 is the real definition of the animal farm, 4 legs good 👍 2 legs bad 👎
