Paul Yandoh, a former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said his mindset about the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Paul Yandoh, his mindset has changed about the NDC following the support he received from its members after losing the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Secretary election.
Paul Yandoh revealed that more NDC members reached out to him after the election than members of his own party.
He disclosed that the experience had given him a different perspective on the NDC, particularly regarding its members’ interest in political contests.
Speaking during a radio Paul Yandoh said the development had caused him to reconsider his previous opinions about the NDC.
He stated, “When I lost the recent Ashanti Regional Secretary race, I must confess, more NDC members called me than NPP members, and I was just shocked”.
“I now have a different mindset about the NDC. What I have learned is that they are interested in who becomes what,” he stated.
“Unlike the NPP, the NDC took interest in my election. Previously, I had a different mentality about that, but this has changed my perception about them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has reacted to the defeat of Paul Yandoh at the recent NPP regional executives election.
Paul Yandoh, a close associate of jailed Chairman Wontumi, was defeated in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Secretary contest.
Mr Yandoh placed third in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Secretary contest.
Paul Yandoh polled 105 votes in the contest. Francis Adomako won the race with 492 votes, while Michael Amoah Awuku placed second with 331 votes.
Paul Yandoh’s candidacy attracted attention in the build-up to the election, after Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, a member of the NDC, endorsed and campaigned for him on social media.
Yandoh’s defeat rules him out of the new Ashanti Regional executive team, having opted to leave the Communications Officer position he previously held to contest the secretaryship.
The election forms part of the NPP’s reorganisation as the party seeks to strengthen its structures and prepare for the 2028 general elections.
Reacting to Paul Yandoh’s defeat, Dr Amoakohene in a video disclosed that although he initially wanted Yandoh to lose the election, he later changed his position and supported his campaign after Yandoh’s financier, Chairman Wontumi, was imprisoned.
Dr Amoakohene stated, “Anyone who spoke against me lost the NPP executive election, including Paul Yandoh”.
“I initially wanted him to lose, but I felt sympathy for him and campaigned for him after his financier, Chairman Wontumi, was imprisoned,” he added.
“He still lost because the NPP delegates saw him as a comedian,” Dr Amoakohene stated.
According to Dr Amoakohene, political contests in the Ashanti Region demand strategic communication and a serious engagement with delegates rather than campaigns built around drama or stunts.
“Politics in the Ashanti Region is a serious business. You need strategic communication to appeal to delegates rather than relying on stunts and drama,” he said.
