Boakye Agyarko, the former Energy Minister and aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to do everything within his capacity to help the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to win the 2028 presidential election.
The NPP National Chairman hopeful, however, noted that the NPP’s return to power would require unity, renewed commitment and a deliberate effort to rebuild confidence among the party’s grassroots supporters.
He highlighted that his focus, if elected National Chairman, would be to help rebuild the party from the grassroots for a stronger campaign in 2028.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday, August 31, 2026, Boakye Agyarko stated, “Our base was not motivated, and there was inadequate preparation for the 2024 election. There was a general sense of demoralisation within the party, which contributed to our defeat”.
“I will do everything possible to help Dr Bawumia win power in 2028,” he said.
Earlier, Boakye Agyarko made a bold pledge to supporters of the party after a group of NPP constituency chairpersons picked, paid for and presented nomination forms to him to contest the party’s National Chairperson position.
According to Boakye Agyarko, under his leadership, the NPP will rise again and return to power in the 2028 general elections under his leadership.
Addressing the media after receiving the forms, Mr Agyarko stated, “I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Constituency Chairmen who purchased and picked this form for me and those who accompanied them. I’m truly humbled by this gesture. Chairmen, I’m truly grateful”.
“To the rest of the NPP fraternity, let me assure you that this party shall rise again. This party may have gone down, but we’re not out. With dedication and commitment…we will rise again,” he added.
“My task as a chairman is to lead in the rebuilding and rebranding of the party into a solid electoral machine upon which our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will stand firmly and win the 2028 election with ease,” he said.
In related news, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a former President of Ghana, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2028 elections.
According to Akufo-Addo, the NPP must grab the opportunity the 2028 election presents to bring the party back to power in 2028.
Speaking with Dennis Miracles Aboagye when he visited him at his office, Akufo-Addo stated, “2028, come what may, we have to win this election. The opportunity is 2028; let’s grab it and make sure we bring an NPP government back into office”.
He further highlighted that after the internal elections, there will be a need for the party to bring everyone on board to help fight for power in 2028.
