Kwame Agbodza, the Roads Minister, has once again confronted a contractor, expressing his dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the Bediako-Kasapin Road project in the Ahafo Region, the Roads Minister made his concern known.
The Roads Minister expressed disappointment with the level of work being carried out, insisting that little progress had been made on the project.
In the viral video, the Roads Minister was captured confronting the contractor, where he was told that workers were scheduled to cast concrete as part of the day’s activities.
However, the Roads Minister disputed the claim, revealing that, as a mason himself, he can tell when actual work was being carried out.
The Roads Minister subsequently questioned the contractor about the availability of cement and water needed for the concrete work.
Roads Minister stated, “Chief, look at me. I have carried concrete before, and I know how to lay blocks. You are not working here; you are only setting things up for eye service just to let us feel like you are working.
“It is almost 11:00 a.m., and you are saying they are coming to cast concrete. I am asking, where is the cement? And you said it would be coming from somewhere. When did you make the decision to cast the concrete?” he questioned.
The contractor responded, “We took the decision yesterday.”
The minister further asked, “Where is the water you are going to use to mix the concrete?”
The contractor replied that the water would be supplied.
Agbodza’s concerns centred on what he described as the lack of visible progress on the project, despite assurances from the contractor that work was ongoing.
Meanwhile, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that government has re-enacted the Road Fund to provide sustainable financing for the maintenance of road infrastructure across the country.
According to the Roads Minister, the planned Accra-Kumasi Expressway will also attract toll charges.
He added that motorists will not be compelled to use the expressway if they do not want to pay the toll.
Speaking at the 2026 Transport Sector Review in Ho, Agbodza stated, “We are taking steps to modernise revenue mobilisation through technology following Parliament’s approval of a 20-year public-private partnership concession in July 2026.
“The government is introducing a multi-lane and free-flow electronic tolling system, and this system will be implemented on every public road that has been improved.
“Every interchange in our country will attract the attention of road tolling, especially the Accra-Kumasi Expressway comes with its own tolling system. Contractors have started returning to the existing Accra to Kumasi bypasses, and in a few weeks all of them will be back on site.”
