The United States Embassy in Ghana has hosted a welcome reception to officially introduce and honour its new Public Diplomacy Counselor, Pamnela DeVolder.
The reception, held on September 17, 2026, at the Chief of Mission’s Residence, brought together US Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Rolf Olson, Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, members of the media, former footballers, representatives of Ghana’s football fraternity, and officials and staff of the US Embassy.
The gathering provided an opportunity for guests to welcome DeVolder to her new role and to strengthen the relationship between the US Embassy and key stakeholders in Ghana’s media, sports and football communities.
In her address, DeVolder expressed her excitement about taking up the position and engaging with stakeholders in Ghana. She also spoke about the importance of building meaningful connections and deepening people-to-people relations through public diplomacy.
In a lighter moment during the reception, the new Public Diplomacy Counselor joined the long-running and often spirited debate over which country makes the best jollof, bringing a touch of Ghanaian culture and humour to the occasion.
The event underscored the embassy’s continued engagement with Ghanaian society and highlighted the role of public diplomacy in fostering stronger cultural, social and professional ties between Ghana and the United States.
