Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has described Teshie as the most dangerous place in Ghana at the moment.
According to him, he has now upgraded Teshie from being one of the dangerous areas in Accra to what he considers a national security concern.
A Plus said attempts to compare the security situation in Teshie with the recent land dispute in Gomoa fail to capture the seriousness of the situation in Ghana’s coastal community.
The Gomoa Central MP described Teshie as a once peaceful and enviable community that has, in his view, deteriorated into what he called a “gangster’s paradise” and a haven for criminals.
He argued that some transport companies have issued security advisories to passengers and drivers travelling through the area.
The Gomoa Central MP further claimed that ride-hailing companies have held several meetings with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to discuss measures to address rising crime in Teshie.
A Plus noted that passengers can request ride-hailing services to places such as Ashaiman, Kasoa and Nima as late as 1 a.m., but securing a driver willing to travel to Teshie after 8 p.m. has reportedly become increasingly difficult.
“Kasoa is safer than Teshie. Nima is safer than Teshie. Ashaiman is safer than Teshie. That alone should tell you how serious the situation is,” A Plus said.
The Gomoa Central MP also described the situation as particularly ironic given Teshie’s concentration of security and military institutions.
According to A Plus, the area hosts the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, the Headquarters of the Southern Command, other military training facilities and a military shooting range.
Despite the presence of these major security institutions, A Plus argued that lawlessness continues to thrive in the area, raising questions about the effectiveness of security measures in one of the country’s most heavily concentrated security zones.

“Okay, let me repeat: the most dangerous place in Ghana right now is Teshie! I have upgraded it from Greater Accra to Ghana. 🙄
I have seen people attempting to compare the situation in Teshie, a once enviable, quiet and peaceful community that has descended into a gangster’s paradise, a haven for criminals and a place for which transport companies now issue security advisories to passengers and drivers, with the recent land dispute in Gomoa.
Let me make this clear: we brought the situation in Gomoa under control overnight. The criminals involved were arrested, order was restored and peace returned. I am on top of the issues, and nobody, absolutely nobody, will be allowed to shelter criminals, engage in criminal activity or conspire to commit crimes with impunity.
Secondly, when the incident occurred in Gomoa, it was never described as “renewed violence.” That distinction is important. It means Gomoa is not known for recurring violence or persistent lawlessness.
Gomoa has leadership. So long as I remain MP, nobody will dare engage in land-guard activities or lawlessness in Gomoa. The people of Teshie deserve the same.

An impression has been created that the aforementioned places are not safe, but the fact is, Kasoa is safer than Teshie. Nima is safer than Teshie. Ashaiman is safer than Teshie. That alone should tell you how serious the situation is.

The irony is extraordinary. Teshie does not have just one military training facility. It hosts the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, the Headquarters of the Southern Command, other military training facilities and a military shooting range. Yet lawlessness continues to flourish around one of the greatest concentrations of security institutions in the country.
