Over 3,000 residents have been displaced by severe flooding in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region after River Dayi overflowed its banks.
According to reports, more than 400 homes have been affected after the River overflowed its banks.
Reports suggest several communities along the river have been impacted, with Zongo reportedly among the worst-hit areas.
The information gathered suggests more than half of the community has been submerged, forcing residents to flee their homes as floodwaters spread through affected neighbourhoods.
The displaced residents have been relocated to temporary shelters, including classrooms, as authorities work to secure more suitable accommodation.
The extent of the flooding has placed considerable pressure on the Hohoe Municipal Assembly and other local authorities, leading to calls for urgent support from individuals, organisations and other stakeholders.
The Hohoe Member of Parliament Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo appealed for immediate assistance for residents affected by the disaster.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, September 28, Worlanyo Tsekpo stated, “It’s overwhelming. The MP and the MCE alone cannot, in fact, we are not able to. We are calling for support”.
Worlanyo Tsekpo, however, commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and security agencies for their efforts to evacuate residents from vulnerable areas and help prevent loss of lives.
The Hohoe MP noted that the situation remained fluid, adding that water levels continued to rise even after the heavy rainfall had subsided.
He further called for sustained emergency support as authorities continue efforts to protect affected communities and provide relief to displaced residents.
Meanwhile, the Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has also called for urgent help for the people of Hohoe.

“This is happening under the NDC government where all the people there have been voting for the NDC since the inception of democracy.
You guys have failed them”, a netizen added.
One more X user added, “You are an MP; you know NADMO is responsible for relief items, the first call for help is fire service, second the ECG, finally GH Navy. After all is done NADMO”.
