Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa, has told Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to ignore the NPP minority in parliament.

The IMANI president labelled the NPP minority ‘noisy gang ’, saying their criticism of the minister should not be taken seriously, arguing that their arguments are more suited to entertainment than serious public debate.

He defended Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa against calls for his resignation over alleged financial irregularities in the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

Mr Cudjoe boldly told the NPP minority in parliament that Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is not going anywhere.

He argued that Ablakwa is Ghana’s most effective Foreign Affairs Minister since 1992.

He noted that those accusing Ablakwa of wrongdoing had not provided convincing evidence that he committed any crime in the humanitarian exercise.

In a social media post on X, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “None, no one shouting and making noise has so far been able to convince any sensible Ghanaian that the Foreign Minister has committed any crime in the humanitarian evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

Ignore the noisy gang whose presentations are at best passing for entertainment of Clowns in a bazaar! Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is going NOWHERE! He remains our most diligent, effective, efficient and impactful Foreign Minister since 1992!”.

Franklin Cudjoe’s comments come on the heels of the Minority Caucus in Parliament demanding Ablakwa’s immediate resignation or dismissal over alleged financial irregularities in the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

The  Minority Caucus in Parliament has announced plans to initiate a vote of censure against Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

According to the Minority, should Ablakwa remain in office over the alleged scandal involving the evacuation exercise conducted some months ago, they will consider initiating a parliamentary process for a vote of censure under Article 82 of the Constitution.

The Minority stressed that the move was necessary to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of public office.

Speaking during a press conference, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor stated, “Should the minister remain in office, the minority in Parliament will consider initiating the parliamentary process for a vote of censure under Article 82 of the Constitution and Order 138 of the Standing Orders of Parliament against the Minister”.

The information garthered suggest under Article 82 of the Constitution, a motion for a vote of censure against a minister requires the support of at least two-thirds of all Members of Parliament to be passed.

Should the motion succeed, President John Mahama will be required to revoke the minister’s appointment unless the minister resigns voluntarily.

Also, the Minority called on Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to resign over the brouhaha surrounding the Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa.

According to the Minority, allegations that some Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa received less than the GH¢5,500 support package announced by the government warrant Ablakwa’s dismissal.

The Minority urged President Mahama to sack the Foreign Affairs Minister if he fails to resign.

He further called for a comprehensive independent audit of the evacuation exercise by an internationally reputable accounting firm to establish the facts surrounding the alleged payment shortfalls.

Samuel Abdulai Jinapor stated, “Given the gravity of these revelations and in order to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter, we call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to resign immediately. His handling of this exercise has brought his high office into disrepute”.

According to the NPP Minority, Ablakwa must accept responsibility, citing Section 2.1(j) of President Mahama’s 2025 Code of Conduct and Ethics for Political Appointees, which he said requires resignation where a Minister’s actions or leadership result in significant failure, corruption or a breach of public trust.

Mr Jinapor further called on President Mahama to terminate Mr Ablakwa’s appointment if he refuses to resign, saying, “The President must demonstrate that the standards he has set for his appointees have consequences when public confidence in their stewardship has been seriously undermined”.

The NPP demand follows reports that at least three people contacted from the evacuation list claimed they received GH¢2,000 instead of the GH¢5,500 announced by the government.
